LIVE from the saddle 2025

Windy as all get out here, so a no go for me.
Took trash to the road for pickup tomorrow, come back to house...heard of 10-12 Doe in front yard at woods edge, I'm sure the buck was close. :rage: :rage:

Oh, great... I see it "OK" got me

I scouted late morning to midday and didn't see anything impressive, so I went over and hunted one of my primary scrape locations this afternoon. I didn't see anything. There were a lot of folks out today. The most I've seen all season. Thought that was sort of weird.

Quick question - does that boonies hat not contact your string when at full draw? I actually like wearing those but have never tried one when shooting my bow. Always assumed there would be some issues.

I'm not the guy you directed the question to but I've been wearing boonie style hats bow hunting for 40+ years specifically because the brim is short and soft and doesn't interfere with the bow string like a ball cap brim does but it still gives you some sun shade if you want it. Another, and more debatable, reason I wear them is I feel they provide a consistent profile in the tree as I rotate my head as opposed to the brim of a ball cap. I typically wear a ball cap in and swap to the boonie in the tree to keep it from getting sweaty.

I've been wearing this particular boonie for over 30 years now. Its critter chewed in the back from a summer spent laying on the forest floor after I misplaced it during a summer observation sit but once I retrieved it and cleaned it up a bit it still works as good as new. I typically wear them pulled down over a scentlok hood which is what you see here.

Awesome. I'll have to find me one with the shorter brim like that. All the ones I have are a bit of a wider brim. Mission brand i think. Works great in the summer.

I went out this afternoon and hunted a transition area that had several scrapes and a rub line in it. No deer were seen. I tried out the 2TC up and rappel out on the Munter and Longhorn Agile hitch. The rope came down out of the tree pretty easy with the pull down line. Everything went smoothly.

Hey there’s a new one of these live from the saddle!

It was cold out, it snowed a lot, I saw a lot of deer and only had one button buck within range. He got a pass.

I learned that actual gloves would be useful coming down. My fingers were frozen coming out of that tree! I usually only wear fingerless fleece gloves, fine on the way in and up, brrrr cold on the way down.
