Has anyone ever used a Lone Wolf hand climber section for a climbing aid and platform once you get to height? Likes/dislikes? Doable?

I actually used the platform from a LW assault and my saddle quite a bit this past year.I liked being able to stand up,turn around and shoot from my weakside.

Did you make any sort of mods to the platform to be able to climb with it? What I'm trying to do is get completely away from climbing sticks.

Any news on whether or not cop is coming up with a climbing platform for saddle guys?

They often break. I wouldn’t use it. I bought one, tried it in my yard, and THEN is when I saw the threads about the breaking. I promptly traded it for a backup saddle.

I often use a lone wolf assault or or alpha climber and use my saddle. I wouldn’t trust using the climber seat for standing on, it can break under pressure. When I use the climber I lower the seat pretty low but still can sit when needed. I make sure I cinch down the seat and stand straps tight.
I put one knee on the seat when I stand, it helps for pivoting around the tree. I can turn around with my tether over my shoulder for weak side shots if need be. Works great for me!

Lots of YT videos on “modifying” and climbing with the top. I don’t have long hikes to my spots, so weight isn’t an issue for me. So I modified the bottom of a LW and climb with it.
For me, its exactly what I need to saddle hunt. One sticking was just a little too sketchy for me, multiple sticks was just too much fiddle factor. It might be a tad slower going up with a climber bottom, but I feel much better than the “slack issues” with one sticking. I do still rappel down though.

I hear yah. I do about everything except 2tc but I plan on working on that after snow melts. It’s all good fun!

Thanks everyone for you answers. They prompted me to do a bit of investigating on my own and I found many YT videos on the subject. It seems there are options after all. I wouldn't do some of the things I saw but there are still some good options. Thanks again!

Are you just using your saddle like you would the top section of a “sit and climb” style climber? Taking just the stand platform and leaving the top/seat at home?

I tried the hand climber top section as a platform before but think the full bottom section would be a more comfortable option for me.

I didn't do any modifications to the platform at all.I used 30ft of 8mm oplux and a madrock, just like I do when one sticking. That way,if I lost the platform,I could just rappel down.I'd raise my tether as high as it would go and then raise the saddle as high as I could with the slack end.I hooked my feet under the rails, sat back and pushed off the tree with my hands as I lifted the platform.Usually,I get two moved before I HAVE TO RAISE THE TETHER.Ease of use was between using a handclimber top and sit and climb. What was nice was the ability to stand strait up against the tree and freely move around the platform. From set-up to hunting height was just a few minutes and it's almost completely silent.I also had a Barren ridge climbing platform. It worked well but the platform was smaller than I like and it limited you to trees no bigger than about 12". A sub 6lb climing platform that has more room would be ideal and it looks like the XOP will work. The only issue I see, they have to make the angle of the arms steeper for it to work. That was the issue with using the LW hand climber.

I tried using the hand climber to climb with and then hunt off of but the cable is a pita trying to do it that way and had to be undone for branches, then I did the mod and tried it again but still thought one sticking was way easier so I undid the mod and put it back on the wall till I need a climber for some reason
