Been doin some thinking...with my thinking tree (PVC pipe) and have an idea. May have been floated before, but here it is.

1. Equipment: Daisy Chain ( we shall call it the tree strap here), something like a niteeyes jam cord tightener and about 8ft of small diamteter cord (heftier than 550, but dont need 8mm climbing either. We will call this the platform lock

2. Secure the anchor end of the cord to the platform. Probably best to do it at both outside corners to some sort of "V". Photo1 (the gear in the photos is small representatitve stuff). Pull the tag end and anchor device topside and use as your "hope the platform doesnt fall" line whilst climbing.

3. Once you chest is about a foot below where your final platform hight is gonna be, wrap the tree strap around and clip in the anchor). Be sure to keep the non load end of the cord topsie with you. (Photo 2)

4. Climb up and past the tree strap and position the platform about a foot above the tree strap and anchor. Pull the tag end tight while putting pressure on the outside of the platform. Photo 3

Im gonna upscale and try it on a tree, but wanted to get you saddle engineers' opinion.

@DanO , pay attention...prolly gonna have to add some sweet ninja pully gear to the offerings!

my biggest question would be is how do you get the tag end up through the V and have the pressure applied downward to the outside of the platform?

While climbing, the cord would run along the bottom of the climber and up the V with the anchor being topside, maybe clipped to the saddle or pack...something. The cord would pass back down through the V and up the 1st platform hole away from the tree and secured within arms reach. Once you clip the anchor to the tree strap, keep climbing and the anchor will clear the platform, leaving the tag end running through that hole. Make sense?

Pressure would come from you standing on the outside of the platform while tightening the cord (just pull up).

Makes perfect sense! I think that would work if you can get it sinched down pretty good. How hard would it be to disengage it? would I have to bend all the way down to unlock the engaged lock?

It would also be something I would likely forget a few times.

Would this be that much easier than an OCB?

I know I wish I had a LW hand climber that was wider. I hunt one area with really large trees and I can't fit it on many trees at the trunk. I may have to take stick with me, which would not be much weight advantage at that point.

Nope. Not better than an OCB, but one would not have to be a contortionist to apply it! I think it would be easier though.

Cant forget it cause its attached to the platform.

I THINK you could pull out and toe point down hard enough to over ride it, then disconnect when climbing down.

I do something similar.
I use a 9ft piece of paracord with a loop in one end and a night eyes tightener on the other. When I get to about the height I want, girth hitch the paracord around the tree and pass the tag end between the platform belt and the platform and connect it to the back of my saddle. Climb up above the girth hitch, reach down and clip the night eyes onto the platform and tighten.

one or 2 squirrel steps to clear the larger base....

Does it allow for anymore side pressure? Worth the effort?

Heres what I ended up with. Super heavy duty and weighs less than a pound.
Suprisingly effective and easy to strap on during the climb.

Just a thought but couldn't you use a daisy chain around the tree on the bottom like where you have the tree strap....then run a cord from the front of your stand thru a hole nearest the tree on the daisy chain....then up thru the stand to the top like you have it...but then have another daisy chain up on top close to your saddle teather around the tree and clip the Nite Ize lock up top...then you could just engage and disengage it up top... pull down on nite ize rope which would be the rope that runs up to where you said to keep it topsie with you... and it would pull the cord tight that was ran down between the stand and tree thru the bottom loop in bottom daisy chain and to the front of the lwhc....

something like this...please dont make fun of my stick picture...lol
