Lone wolf hand climber platform bolt modification alternative

So once you get to hunting height, how do you keep the platform stable when you lean one way or the other?
There are several methods people have been using. I think the most popular is a strap with an over center buckle. I do not have one of those right now but I did order a couple from custom tie downs to try. Otherwise if you're comfortable with some flex a camover strap works. At the very least a ratchet strap but that will add weight, noise and complexity.

I tried angling my platform more and didn't feel it is any improvement. I also don't bother adding any more straps or anything at hunting height. It's stable enough for me as is.

I like it. I had done the bolt mod originally but went back to stock setup. I may try this for next year. I found by moving the strap closer to the front of the platform it climbs much better and I can live with it for this year at least.

My biggest reason for doing it would be because I don't like watching the arms bend in lol. Thanks for sharing.

I like it. It's a shame you can't drill the hole at more of an angle. That would allow the bolt head to sit flat on the tab. However, then your angle alum bracket and washer will likely not sit flush...

What if you used a bolt with a round head? Something like this?

That would ensure no matter how many washers you added or removed to change the angle, you would still have a decent amount of surface area contacting the tab. Would that introduce too much torque onto the bolt and cause it to deform the drilled hole in the arm over time though? Hmm...

C'mon Lone Wolf, just change the angle of the tab already to satisfy this niche group of weirdos that are using your climber seat incorrectly...
Could also just grind that bolt head at an angle. No more than that is you'd still be able to put a wrench in the end and loosen or tighten the bolt as needed.

I have two. One I modded with the bolt and Summit cable . To make this work I had to make new arms out of 1" steel square tube so the Summit cable would fit through. The other I left stock. Last year I also started playing with prepping the tree with 550 para chord if I like the tree. So when I get to the tree I can pull up my climbing rope and standing on my platform go up the tree without having to keep advancing the tether. If you know what I mean.

I refuse to drill or structurally change mine, nor would I encourage anyone to do so on molded aluminum. Vet tape and some rope scraps work fine and if they fail in use, the worse case is you are right back to factory mode with zero worries. I will be switching over to hockey tape since it will hold up better.

I plan to do this. What rope diameter did you use? Thanks in advance for your help.

I used paracord and the arms cinch down nicely. I didn't want anything permanent and I need to experiment with different sizes of cord but I did a cobra braid with 550 cord and doubled up a bit where the arms come down on it. I used a baker stand from 12- 23 yrs old then a summit till 2 years ago so with all that practice I can get the thing up pretty quiet. The lw is king I have to say. I love using this set up because I'll hug a tree baker style, I'll use the rollnlock and tree tether to get up, I'll climb trees with branches and curves because its pretty easy to get around limbs with this thing...especially if you've ever done it with a full stand before. Using the full LW climber I use a climbing harness and tether low just above the seat. I dislike the other type of safety harness for many reasons. It's funny, if I put the tether up at head height I guess I'm saddle hunting. Anyways I added a sit and drag with a bridge for comfort and an extra bener and prusik and I'm a happy cat. I think hang on guys and gals are so used to sticks that to switch to a saddle from hang ons is easy and obviously lighter and quieter. I think it's hard to convert guys from climbers over to sticks. One-sticking seems the way to go but I can and have been really just one-sticking with my platform anyways. I guess Sean over at Seans Outdoor adventures is going to release a video today or tomorrow on how he gets his lone wolf climber around branches which should be great to watch. It takes a little finesse.

I think this modification is working well for me so far. I used some paracord and a carabiner to make my boot strap and safety tether so It can't drop out from under me. I clip it to my harness while climbing then move it to my camera arm strap to keep it out of the way. Its stable enough for me to use without further strapping it to the tree as is. I can push off on the corners to get around the tree and it stays put. I like the piece of aluminum across the stand. It seems to make the foot positions more ergonomic for me.
