Looking at a New Release

I have my first release I started with which is an old cobra and I’m looking at getting something new.

Since doing paper tuning this summer, I feel like my form is improving, but feel like I’m also getting some string torque since the swivel on it is a bit tight.

What have you guys experienced? Open to all suggestions.

Thanks!

How long is your d loop?

i ask op because when using a handheld release its recommended by some to use 3/4 to a 1" d loop to relieve some of the torque your d loop might have

Totally depends on what style you want (index trigger/wrist strap, thumb button, hinge, etc.) and what your budget is. As far as affordable wrist rockets, I’ve been very happy with my Scott Samurai (upgraded from an olderCobra model). I also like my Scott Longhorn Hex, which is a hinge. For thumb buttons, the Nock 2 It is very well regarded, but pricey. Those are the three I’ve shot and could recommend.

I’m not sure what I’d like since I only have used the cobra which is a caliper wrist release. So many options out there makes it a bit overwhelming which then makes me default back to the old trusty.

If you can reliably achieve a surprise shot/avoid punching the trigger, I see no reason to move to a different style just for the heck of it. But, if you're punching the trigger or dealing with target panic, some of the other options are really great for training those problems away (in my opinion, the least radical to most radical style change for you would be a thumb button, then a hinge with a wrist strap, then a back tension, then a hinge with no wrist strap).
The Scott releases I've used are noticeable upgrades from my old Cobra, so if you're looking to just have a similar but nicer release than what you have, Scott (or Truball) is a great choice. If you stick with a wrist release, make sure you get one that has two key features: (1) a buckle-style wrist strap instead of Velcro, which will enhance consistency in how you "wear" it; and (2) an adjustable bar or strap going from the wrist strap to the head of the release, which will allow you to customize the fit to your hand.
Hope this helps!

Several threads on this very subject recently. I'd do a search and read through those first.

Nock 2 it has changed a lot for me and for the better. It’s incredibly comfortable and natural feeling to me. Just waiting for the Silverback to come back in stock because I will be buying that too, to compliment the Nock 2 it. I can’t recommend a handheld enough, I’ll never go back to the wrist strap.

Definitely didn’t want to be that guy. Couldn’t find key words to narrow my search down I guess.

Thanks, @Gator
