LWCG Double Step stick review

I guess you can't stack them with straps on?Are you guys carrying them in a bag or something?
You MAY be able to stack 2 together with straps on, being creative with how you run them. I honestly didn't give it a whole lot of thought. You may be able to use the side tabs and versa button and then go over the top, down the back, around the bottom and up the front somehow.

If you use the side tabs you can stack them with the strap on. I ran the strap over the top step, under the bottom and back up to loop it over the top step. The strap stays completely on the side of the stick. I'll go take a pic.

Waiting for mine to arrive - am a scent control fanatic so can't see using any type of tape to silence them; my two cents - the tape will hold odor. Other opinions welcome of course! No hollow tube on these to fill with foam.... Daisy chains I can wash, but maybe scuff up the surface of these sticks and spray some Plasti Dip on them? Anyone else try these mods?

That why went with the lwcg tape. Holds no scent. See how it goes. I love these things so far though.

Everything holds scent. Your finger oil that goes on each step you climb with, your hairs that fall out from taking your pack out, to climbing the tree, your skin cells that are shed by the millions per minute. If you're worried about tape holding scent I assume you've had no success hunting. Play the wind, know your thermals. If your confidence comes from minimizing your scent, you will never have confidence. A deer cannot smell you upwind, if they're downwind you planned wrong.

The corners on the sticks need to be filed/ sanded as they're sharp and can compromise the straps; I'm not so much bothered by the noise they make because I can minimize that with precise movement, once the sticks are unstacked they make no noise.

So, I'm not a scent control guy, but if a guy wants to worry about it, who am I to tell him otherwise? I think you are a little off the mark with the confidence statement. You've clearly never had interaction with John Eberhart and regardless of whether I agree with him or not, he is the king of scent control & has a ton of confidence.

I agree with the corners needing touched up. I've already taken some 400 and then 600 grit sandpaper to them to smooth them out.

I can't give much input on how the hold to different trees or kick out. I do have three that I have been playing with the last 5 days and here are a couple mods that I have done and things I have figured out.

I applied 12.7mm heat shrink to each standoff bolt, versa button, and nut that goes to the bolt for the cable aider.

I have played with the very button on and off, at this point I think the stick holds better with it on. However I do find it easier to stack with it off! when I installed the cable aiders it seemed to hinder the stacking minutely. Seems like having the versa button on along with the nut for the cable aiders everything has to be just right for them to stack as designed.

The fit and finish with LWCG has come a long way cause these look very professional , I think the stick is a major hit and is going to work just as deigned for the system they have created.

This is off-topic and I did not mean to start a separate discussion. There are individuals who will obsess over scent, John is one of them. Just because he has success and is a scent-nut does not mean his obsession is the key to his success. Nor does it mean his scent control plays a factor in his success. There are many more hunters equally successful that do not have any scent control methods. Unless you can stop sweat, I don't think you need to worry about tape holding scent.

I don't want to start a separate tangent, the scent topic is a rabbit-hole. I was just reflecting on how tape on the sticks is the least of anyone's worries.

How many packages of heat shrink will do 4 sticks? Thanks

I wanted to follow up a little bit. Hunting season for me hasn't started yet, but I've been giving these sticks alot of test time here at the house, and I think I have found the lightest and most secure attachment method, for me, to date. I was sold on Amsteel daisy chains (and I still think that method is viable) however, I stumbled on to the different stick attachment video by Whitetail Experience and figured I would try out the buckle less method over the 2 tabs since I had a few straps laying around. I really was pleasantly surprised with how well this method worked, but my ONLY issue was the strap size when using stock straps. Then I remembered I had a Tethrd Mini Versa strap laying around. Threw that on to give it a shot and I knew right there that this will be my go to for the season. With not a whole lot of fuss you can get them relatively tight around the tree (read no "in between" loops and slack like on the daisy chain) then when you set the stick it really creates a solid set. The overall bulk & weight of the Mini Versa Straps is in line with what I wanted to achieve by trying to run the amsteel daisy chains.

Thank you for this I was looking at the mini versus straps as well. Just picked up a set today before seeing this and then went looking make sure I didn’t spend my money erroneously lol. I appreciate the confirmation. Have you had any luck with leaving the versa straps on while stacking the sticks? I feel like if you wrapped them right you should be able to reduce the number of metal on metal contact points and accordingly get some sound deadening benefits as well.

So I wrap the straps around the standoffs, no problem keeping them attached. Really liking these sticks with the straps. I'm at 10 sits with these so far & very happy with them.

I only see a versa strap on tethrd website no mini versa?

Anyone notice that the bottom of the stick pulls away easily if you're climbing back down with out taking sticks down?I needed to go back down for some thing and was suprising to me that it did that. I was wondering if anyone noticed that? That was with stock straps and buckle.

Yes.

I like the sticks a lot, but they’d be a lot better if they put the button lower. That pivot point is too high. I can’t get them tight enough that I feel comfortable with anything but the buckles. With the buckles I make sure I set them down good and they’ve ok though.
