Seems everywhere I look the Madrock Safeguard is out of stock, is there an alternative that works just as well?
I have a couple descenders and have used them but I am set on the figure 8 and pursik.
Its quicker and easier than double wrapping the end and stops on a dime if you let go for any reason like, poked in the eye or removing your stik.
Be careful buying descenders, they don't all function the same in a panic.
I got rid of my linemans rope and tether and use both ends of my rappel line instead.
so you are just using your rappel line? No separate tether? I like the idea since that's just less weight you'd have to hike in, but how do you feel it affects safety vs having a separate tether?I have a couple descenders and have used them but I am set on the figure 8 and pursik.

Its just a prusik and super/monster munterSome other options for low tech, brake bar, Sticht Hitch, and hitch directly on Eight.

@Weldabeast, what’s going on with that hitch connection, and why, for what looks like a Hedden Hitch?
Excuse me, jokers? I may be a bit of a clown, but I ain't no joker! Why u jokers wanna carry extra metal bits is beyond me.....u got what u need already

I'm not quite sure I follow....I vet wrap the tender to the prusik. I can show u a more detailed pic if u want. When descending I leave the tender just hanging out not inside the carabineer.....honestly I need to take the tender off cause I don't really use it on a tether but it is my hand hold if I need to grab the rope and that vet wrapped section allows me to verify I'm not grabbing the wraps of the friction hitch to release it on accident with out lookingPrusik, that looks right, Heddon was a guess but one section of cord wasn’t fitting, thanks. The mod D carabiner compresses the Munter, a rounded top would make it run easier.
Are you seizing/whipping the second leg of the friction hitch and the tender together to allow for only one eye on the carabiner, like it, if so. If not what’s going on I’ve applied for a pat. pending on the idea just now!
