It takes a little getting used to. I'm new to saddle hunting too and I find myself changing positions almost constantly. Just small changes but dozens of possibilities. I've fallen asleep a couple times too so it can't be too bad. I'm playing around with tether height. @DaveT1963 put out a video today where he suggests a tether height of mid chest level on the tree and that it greatly reduces hip pinch. I'm not really experiencing hip pinch. The thing I've had to get used to is the bottom band right where the legs and butt meet. It's different but I find that using the lowers connections for the leg straps on the Mantis is more comfortable in the tree than the connection points up in the front near the waist belt buckle. I have to use the front connect however for walking in or out or the saddle wants to fall to my ankles. I love how easily I can hide myself from approaching game and just sneak around the tree for a shot. Great way to hunt.

If you have to put your tether at mid chest level to be comfortable something is majorly wrong with your setup. Maybe standing on a platform it could work but I could never move around the tree with a tether that low. My bridge probably connects to my tether higher than that.

A couple thoughts on the mantis:

For those questioning if the micro adjusters will help with comfort I fully expect them to. I am a sitter in my saddle and I WOULD NOT hunt without adjusters on my saddle. I have been hunting in my prototype mantis for a month now and I had only 1 sit that I was uncomfortable. I'm sure it was related to the tree/setup because mobile sits are not always perfect.

There has been lots of talk about tightening up the leg straps and comfort lately. IMO the leg straps are not intended to be cinched tight. They will most likely cause discomfort if they are.

I agree with Red on this. I know everyone is built differently, so biological variability will have a lot to do with an individual's fit and comfort level. However, in my use, the leg straps are not acting as load bearing components. They keep the saddle in position and prevent it from riding up, but my weight is never pulling on them. On my arborist saddle, I keep my leg straps super loose and dangling allowing greater range of motion. I adjust my Mantis similarly. I consider the leg straps to be safety items to prevent one from sliding out of their saddle. One could actually use the Mantis without the leg straps, though, for safety's sake, I hope you don't. The wider strap that the leg straps are attached to, the one that looks like seatbelt material and is sewn to the mesh, runs under your thighs and supports you. That is why the MicroFit Adjusters make such a difference. They change the length of this strap and cup under your thighs, allowing a sitter a comfortable swing style seat. Loosen or remove the adjusters, and it allows a hunter to have a more comfortably fitting, flatter harness against which to lean. In this setting, instead of the waist and lower straps digging in and taking all of your weight, the mesh also supports you.

I sure hope they also got some micro adjusters. I’m needing them bad! Oh and the recliners.

I used the back support on the kestrel pretty much every sit. With the mantis working for me with the belt a little higher I probably wouldn’t even use the recliner with exception of all day sits.
