No this is not about basketball.
March is my favorite time to Deer Scout.
I have the camper hooked up, going to west Ky. for a few days to scout some new public.
If you see some guy wondering around n the woods with a lost look on his face, it my be me!
Anybody else have a scouting trip planed?

Watch out for the cotton mouths i hear they out already

Where abouts in KY? I live just on the other side of the Ohio in Indiana. I’ve thought about getting my KY tags so I could extend my season a bit.
I need to get out and scout before green up and the ticks get thick.

I used to run down to Portsmouth OH and from where I'm from we'd skim through KY and I always saw those cornfields in OH so close to KY and now KY has probably double or triple the AG market it had when I'd go down there It always looked like incredible whitetail country. Unfortunately my trips were never for hunting purposes!!!

Scouting LBL. I have been hunting here on and off. Kinda got stuck going to the same areas. With 180,000 acres it would take two lifetimes. Deer numbers are down here and the pig invasion is not helping.

Why scout in March? Just Curious
Not super cold. Easy to camp. Woods are still open no new growth. All the old rubs, trails, scrapes, are there. Deer beds are easy to spot. Snakes are not out yet, haven't seen a single one after about 8 miles. After a winter shut in, just feels good to get in the woods again. Get away from the wife!! Did I really say that???

Gotcha. I am a fan of post season scouting but I like going almost as soon as season ends. I don't want to confuse hunting sign with late spring sign. Just curious as to what made you pick march is all!

Made it back in one piece.
Found dozens of places I will not hunt.
Dident find any sheds, but I did not look where they would be, cut corn, bedding areas.
Found a good looking section that I am going to hunt for two weeks late Oct. and Nov. Looks to be about 200+ acres of thick and nasty.

Did you happen to make it up around the north end where the tornado went through? Just curious how much damage it did in there.

No, I used to hunt area 2 a lot.
Decided to go south and even went into TN. Their has always been more deer and larger bucks in the TN areas.
