@SloMo that would be great. I am hopeful that some of the saddle related businesses will also donate. A raffle would be a nice way to say thank you to the club and some folks would walk away with some cool stuff. Pete

Thanks. A set of my boards was recently donated to a drama club at a local school and it raised over 2500 dollars as a raffle item. I`ll bring along a couple of sets in case some of guys and gals want to play if you like. I`m coming from Wilmington Ma so if anyone wants to ride out with me or needs help getting stuff out there PM me .
I can do saddle hunter boards if I can get the graphics file? That would be cool. Drop that on a nice wood graphics13344652_1119277514798652_4554133224159432624_n.jpg and pow.

Pushing this to the top again and providing an update.
Thirty people so far with another ten people coming with those that responded. I have not reached out to the club members yet, so I expect the group to grow.

Great diversity of experience and gear. 60% have hunted out of a saddle. Every style of saddle and climbing system will be represented. Someone is even using an SRT system to climb. I am looking forward to seeing that one.

I am trying hard to get a few sponsors so we can have a raffle with proceeds going to the club as a way to say thank you. Plus, if I can get the commitments, the raffles will be legit. We are talking saddles and climbing systems. Also, SloMo has also been kind enough to donate a custom Cornhole set. He makes these as a side business. I saw some pics (I think they are in this thread). They are incredible. Hopefully he brings some extras, just in case people want to buy some.

I will figure out the food and stuff soon. Everyone is willing to pitch in... Thank you!

I was thinking of breaking the day into segments; 1) What is a saddle and the different types; 2) Ways to climb 3) Safety. What do you guys think? Too organized, not organized enough, and what else should we be considering?

I still plan to have 3D targets so folks can try to shoot from a saddle, even if it is just a foot off the ground.

Hey Peter, I think because it's supposed to be informational as well as fun their should be some sort of organized itinerary. A set starting time, a social hour/meet and greet, and some introduction to the various equipment, climbing methods, and platforms. We could prearrange some climbing, and set up demos, or just do that part on the fly. This might be an opportunity for a bit of a swap meet as well. If folks brought some extra gear their looking to get rid of for sale or trade.

@Kurt great suggestions. I will work on this, maybe tonight, and post it up here for review. I can talk about a sit drag until I am blue in the face. I may have a thing or two to share about knaiders and swaiders too. But got nothin' when it comes to saddles or climbing sticks. I am sure we will find some volunteers to talk.

I really like the idea of a swap.

@Kurt Here is what I am thinking regarding an itinerary:

9am to 10am - show up and shoot the breeze get to know each other
10am to 12pm - talk about the the use of saddle hunting, introduce the various types and let people try them, talk about climbing systems and platforms
12PM to 1PM - Break for lunch, raffle, swap
1PM to 2PM - Safety
2PM to whenever - Have people hook in, try climbing systems, take some shots at fake deer from various positions.

Last year I tagged some trees that we could climb. I will do the same this year. I will try to have a leaner, maybe a forked one and/or some with branches. I will have a couple bracket platforms and WE Step platform set up. Others will have Predators, etc. that we can set up for comparison as well. We seem to have every type of climbing system represented. One of you SRT guys will have to tell me what you need for a tree. I am assuming it needs a branch.

I am not an event organizer, so I need suggestions here. I am really winging this thing.

With your help and anyone else that wants to comment, I will get a final version of this with more detail. I put a map together as well last year regarding where to park and where to meet in the woods. I will do the same again this year. Everyone just brought food last year. Much bigger crowd this time, so I will have a list for that as well. What else?

Your killin it Pete. That all sounds good. Good to have a little structure, but keeping it loosely organized. Are the grounds at the sportsman club gated? I usually like to show up to things way to early. If i did could i get in, and set up. I'm bringing a simple set, and folding table and my camp chair. I don't necessarily have to set it up but it would be nice to have if needed. Will we have access to power? If it rains can we get inside, or are we going to drive on outside? So concerning food, did we get enough in the sign up to do a community meal, or will it be more of a bring your own lunch type of deal?

It is not gated. We may or may not have access to power. Depends where I set us up. Last year we were quite a bit away from the club house. I am trying to set us up closer this year. It will be outside; Sunday is the rain date. Last year I had enough left over food to feed the entire Town of Auburn. I suspect it will be the same this year. I will get there early as well. I will coordinate with folks that want to help out as we get closer to the date.

Who from this group (Massachusetts area) has been saddle hunting for a while? I am looking for a couple of experienced folks that would be willing to provide an introduction into saddles and talk about functionality and their experiences. I know a couple of guys from the Mass Bowsite forum have been doing it for years, but we may need a couple of more.

I am also looking for someone to talk about climbing sticks, SRTs, and any other forms of getting up a tree. I can cover WE Steps, unless Andrew shows up and then it can be his show.

Trying to slowly but surely get everything buttoned up so we are not scurrying around at the last minute. I will probably continue to bug you guys with other questions.

I can talk about SRT though I am pretty new to it for climbing trees. Might be folks with more experience.
