Nothing wrong with that and I'm all about the $15 bucks as I stated in my very first post. But to say the classifieds aren't a huge draw when you can see the numbers is in my opinion a little off.

Why not just do away with the classifieds and pay $15 for a membership?
I'm guessing that the intended purpose of the classifieds, is to provide a safe and efficient area for participants on the site to transact with each other, rather than to draw more people in.

I'm not so sure that red is looking for growth. I'm not an old timer, but I think they had a really cool site going before the explosion last year. In fact, I think he might be trying to slow the growth and keep it small.
Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Growth has been great for saddle hunting gear suppliers. Not so much for mods and papasquirrels.

If he's looking for money then he's looking for growth. Growth adds ingenuity and experience. The whole purpose of creating this forum is to grow the saddle experience.
Nobody is trying to slow the growth except for nutterbusters wife who cant seam to understand why her husband needs a size larger pant every 2 months

Back in the day we "old timers" had a saying...… maybe it is still relevant in today's world? "Don't let the door hit ya in the ………….."
This is what I dont understand. Does SH and it's "old timers" want more saddle hunters or less. It's hard to tell. Certainly they want less people on this site from what I've been reading. Why do you make videos and put them on youtube then? Cause it's not for old timers like yourself who know all the tricks. It's to inform new people but here you are implying you'd be just as happy to see them go.

You want to slow growth? Take the classifieds off, and all YouTube videos dealing in saddle hunting including your own, you cant have it both ways. You are posting videos where billions of people go to watch things daily.

Now you don't want people knowing about it? LOL

let me see if I can break this down into simple terms:
1. More saddle hunters - YES
2. More whiners - hell NO

I made videos because I got tired of answering the same question 1000 times and because I do like to help the average guy out so he doesn't waste a ton of money on trying things

Growth also comes with headaches and higher bills. He just might be looking to recoup some funds that have been sunk in the process of keeping the site open.

We don't hunt the way most people do, so why should we forum the way most people do? Exciting times to be here!

I put videos out because I'm an attention ho. Just like every other youtuber. ;)

Can't speak for red, but I imagine he wants cool dudes on here to chat with. Not whiners, cheapskates, and such critters.

It's like a cool little bar with a $5 beer and a sandwich deal. If ya want a beer and burger, cool. But if you're gonna complain about the lighting, and not get to know the characters...just eat your burger and drink your beer and invite the rest if the world to enjoy the goodies without contributing to the atmosphere...

Am I close here, guys?

The other thing to keep in mind is TIME! Red is a father and a professional in the medical world. Both of those are full time jobs. I'm guessing this started out as a hobby for fun on the side. The site has grown exponentially in members and I'm sure backend maintenance, front end management and cost. The time he is investing needs to come from somewhere, and as a father, I can tell you time doing something away from my family, or when i should be sleeping has a lot of value to it.
I was going to stay quiet, and might still after I reply, but as a stay-at-home dad of two young girls by day, and a full-time martial arts teacher by night, who also likes to bowhunt, has a low-key nonprofit to run, and is responsible for all culinary exploits in the house, effectively making me Sammy Homemaker, I can not possibly agree with your comment more.
I bought my Kestrel and joined this site within 48 hours of each other, so that I could shallow the learning curve on a system of hunting that’s conducive to spending more time in a tree safely with the little time I have to hunt, and I have NO regrets about the switch. I’ll probably wait until I actually need the classifieds again to pay, but I have no problem paying once that need arises. Thanks to the classifieds and forum created by @redsquirrel (who happens to be a fellow mid-atlantean) I’ve gotten some rope from @Nutterbuster, some prusik cords from @Exhumis, learned how to one-stick from @boyne bowhunter and @Murph4028, bought a dope HangTime shirt from @Jefferson10940 that I’m wearing under my camo, and put all of that to use in one way or another today getting up this big-ass, stupid-ass walnut tree that just happens to be the best tree on the property for doe harvest and the occasional buck.
I’ve had more solid opportunities at deer in my first 2 months in a saddle than I have in 6 previous seasons with a “lightweight, silent” treestand, and spent way less time fidgeting with gear at the truck and tree, and more of that time actually hunting or again, being a dad.
Whenever I happen to pay that $15, it’ll be well worth it. I support dads.

100% He should absolutely be trying to recoup some funds. It's being handled in the wrong way.

Then why only limit access to classifieds. Why not limit the whole site and make it 5 bucks a year. He would make more money that way and still limit the "cheapskates" and "whiners". One could argue the people who agree with red are whining. Just a matter of perspective.

Dude I have much bigger wishes then letting SH whiners make me feel comfortable. I learned a long time ago that someone's opinion of me is none of my business - i.e. I don't care what snifflers think. Some of you really need to get out and hunt and appreciate what you DO HAVE.

It's being handled in the wrong way.
That's like ... your opinion, man :D

But seriously, let's give it a chance. I can guarantee this was not a quick nor easy decision. Suggestions such as yours were considered in the process. I think other good points have been raised as well. Let's just leave it as: we shall see.
