Merino wool

I have some of that LL Bean merino too. That quarter zip is one of my favorites and I have a bunch of first lite stuff. Have a size large just like everything else and it fits well. I just wash all my wool and hang to dry.

I've been using Russel Athletic merino from when they had the outdoor stuff and LL Bean merino midweight for 6 years now. They are all peppered with holes.

Is that just the nature of using merino wool?

I picked up a bunch of merino from Black Ovis on the camofire app and have used it for several years. Anytime I see on the app I buy it.

Glad it’s working for you. I just got some black Ovis off Camofire a few weeks ago. Looking forward to using it this year. Never really had nice camo or base layers before.

Did the Meriwool stuff come in? I'm curious what your thoughts are on quality.
I’m impressed with the quality of my mid weight Meriwool. I’ve already worn it this week and it is better quality than my Minus33 merino. The price was great also. They’ve got a repeat customer with me! The sizing was spot-on also.

Glad to hear that. Might be ordering some of it for myself for Xmas. Thanks!

Also, just an FYI on the Black Ovis stuff. It runs small, or at least the tops do. Not sure about the bottoms. I am 6', 180 lbs and am a pretty consistent large in almost everything. I read that the Black Ovis stuff runs small so I ordered an XL top and it fits me well. It's not tight but, there is no bagginess to it at all.

That’s interesting. I’m a 2xl in everything and not afraid to go 3xl if I can’t get something in 2xl. I got two of the black ovis merino tips in 2xl and I think they fit me fine.

You made me curious so I went back to camofires website and if you look under features some of the tops say they run small order one size up, and some say order the size you would normally wear in a t-shirt. So it appears it is a mixed bag.

now im nervous i bought on the smaller side for my top. Im right in between a medium and a large. we will seeeee......

I’ve bought pieces from First Lite, Meriwool, LL Bean, and Icebreaker.

Honestly, there appears to be only minuscule differences in quality/durability between most of these. With that said, my icebreaker has been the first to wear out, and feels thinner than the same weight/GSI in LL bean crestawool but I’ve owned/used/laundered the icebreaker longer/more than the others.

Of the ones listed here, the sizing is good on all of them for me except the LL Bean crestawool which ran short in the torso.

Comfort is subjective as well, but for me, First Lite is the clear winner in this category, but not by an astronomical margin. Worth the difference in price? Having it in a camo pattern is worth it for me, even though camo patterns are not necessary to kill deer.

Honestly, I have been very impressed with the Meriwool, and plan to buy more of there stuff. this would definitely be my “best budget” pick.

Ultimately if I were to rate my satisfaction among these, I would say:
FL>Meriwool>icebreaker>ll bean

I've been singing the praises of fishnet base layers for years but it seems no one is interested in it because the guys on TV or YouTube don't push the stuff. I've used fishnets for decades to keep me warm in Michigan. It's nice to see someone else figured it out and is reaping the benefits of fishnets. I wear Wiggy's fishnets.

I still didn’t pull he trigger on wiggys fishnets. you definitely are the reason I received my package from wiggys yesterday. A larger size lamilite sock (I should have sized up when I bought last year) and the lamilite liner jacket. The lamilite rocks!

But for merino, my cabelas set has seen better days. I have an order of merino tops and bottoms coming in from skregear.com

I have Meriwool mid-weight bottoms and love them. I purchased from Amazon and want aware that they offered a discount for buying through them. They've held up well for 2+ years. I plan on getting some tops soon.
