Ok! My milkweed oasis is juuuuust about ready. Plenty of pods already dry (no more milk). The milkweed gods have blessed me with a bountiful harvest this yr. If anybody needs any, give peej a holler. Ill mail ya a couple pods on the house. If you dont have access to this little miracle plant pm me your address. If you know multiple people in your area that would like some let me know how many people. Even if you hunt 40-50 days 2 or 3 pods should last all season.

Awesome,i think the pods are getting close to ready here in upstate NY too.

Do you wait for the pods to open before harvesting or can you pull it once the milk is gone? I have milkweed all over but I've never harvested it

once the pod dries out it turns brown. Doesnt need to open. Pick it and you can keep it like that or pull it all out and put it in a bag

Can you post a pic of what the plant itself looks like? I'm pretty sure I've seen some along the highways and am planning to stop and grab some next time I pass them. Just want to make sure I'm grabbing the right thing so when the trooper asks what the hell I'm doing running up and down his highway I can show him how it works. :tonguewink:

This is what it looks like while its still green. Pods will be dead and crispy brown when its readyScreenshot_20200825-201407_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20200825-201459_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20200825-201510_Gallery.jpg

Last year I actually had a sheriff stop me and ask! He went home with 10 pods himself!

the purple one blooms earlier. If you can't find milkweed it works great. Just be careful its like a cactus.

milkweed is definitely better. That little seed on the thistle makes it sink faster but it works 100x better then any commercially available windicator. If you can't find milkweed its worth finding

Thats a thistle i think,dont use that,they spread..
I mean it only grows in the open. If your in the big timber it won't get enough sun. But i hear what your sayin. Makes sense

Spent countless days of my youth digging thistles out by hand with a shovel in whatever pasture dad sent me to. Please do not spread any of that devil seed.

Just as a primer - ALL Thistle family members are on the USDA Noxious Weeds list and federal regulations would frown on spreading it.

The OP is literally giving milkweed (native to each state of the continental US) to you!
