Must Have Duck Hunting Gear

Headed to Arkansas this weekend for my first duck hunt, friend at work had a couple people bail on his annual trip and I was asked to tag along.

I’m not normally the excitable type but I’m really pumped about it!! So far I’m only in for the price of a case of shells, a pair clearance waders and the cost of the trip itself.

Luckily for me I’ve already got my buck this year and have plenty of time left for my additional tags, I could see duck hunting being a major distraction in deer season, lol.

Be excited, very excited. My last Arkansas hunt we shot a nine man limit in 20 minutes the first day and a 7 man limit in about as much time the second. I was a bit concerned about the shell limit but it wasn't a problem at all

Are you talking about the magazine plug with the shell limit or is there some other regulation I should know about?

Some places restrict the number of shells you can have on your personal. In Alabama some of the better tracts have a 25 shell limit. It's supposed to reduce the amount of willy-nilly blasting at a spot.

Yep, what @Nutterbuster said. We hunted bayou meto and they only allow something like 14 shells per person. They also have different limits and sometimes require a special permit. The first day i shot three times and had my three mallard limit. Timber hunting is in your face close! We would finish our daily limits on rice fields outside bayou meto where the limits are different.

Got this guy and a hen. Had 2 misfires or I'd have had a limit. About to break this firing pin assembly down tonight to see if that's the issue and will probably throw away the box of shells I've been using. Both got soaked and dirty Saturday when I went swimming.
Nice. I had shotgun issues last time I went out. I thought I'd be cute and take my O/U. It shot only about half the time. I'll be shooting the nelli from now on.

What are you guys using for dekes? Just looking for name brand/model not species. I'm looking at picking some up.

Academy has really stepped up their game with their in house decoys lately. They used to be hard plastic and really crappy. Now they're soft and the paint and molding looks pretty good on the gadwalls and wood ducks i have. They're cheap too. 40 bucks for my woodies vs like 80 for the avian x I used to buy

Rogers will probably have some good deals on decoys right now.

@Nutterbuster are you suggesting that the Mossberg may have, in fact, failed you?
For real. I've never had a shotgun give me grief. The little 20 gage h&r goes swimming all the time and never b/tches.

I just sprayed everything with brake cleaner, scrubbed it, and oiled it. I've got some rio to shoot instead of winchester tomorrow. We'll see if it does or doesnt

I does my heart good to know someone else uses brake cleaner on their firearms! BTW some factory camo jobs don't react we'll to it.
