Mystery Ranch Pop Up 28

Nice. How do you like the muddy strap?? Very reasonable price.

I use a cranford rope step to hang my pack off. Goes on the tree quick super quiet and hang my pack. on trees too small I double wrap the step. been doing it like this for years and works great for me.

What’s everyone’s experience with the loudness I’d the Mystery Ranch packs? I just got a pop up 18 and it’s pretty loud out of the package. Do they quiet down?

a little. Mines much quieter after so storms, and a few soaks to get blood from packing critters out.

It’s not fleece quiet. It’s not brushed fabric quiet. But I can fish crap out on a still morning now and not worry about alerting deer 100 yards away.

soak in some warm water with dawn soap, take a medium softness bristle brush to it it will speed up the process. If you want it to be water resustant you may need to retreat after it’s been soaked a few times.

Good stuff. Thanks for the insight, Kyler.

Has anyone packed a quartered whitetail out in 1 trip with this pack? I just ordered the MR pop up 28 last night and would like to understand the full extent of the meat hauling capabilities. Asking because I have a badlands 2200 on order also (black friday sale) and am considering just cancelling the badlands order. I plan to use the MR 28 to pack in sticks, platform and anything else I need for the hunt...then when I shoot a deer, get back to my car to fully unload the MR 28, then walk back in to the pack the whole animal out in 1 trip with the MR 28. I prefer to walk back to my car first to give the deer a little extra time.

If you've done this, could you explain how you've done it? I assume both hams on the meat shelf, then shoulders plus straps and neck meat in the pack...and hopefully a head plus antlers on top? I also have a molle frame with giant rucksack (maybe 6000 cubic inch) that I can use to pack the whole deer out if the MR 28 doesn't work.

I did and all the meat fit in game bags on the meat shelf. I didn't have to put any in the bag. Granted I do live in Alabama and our deer are smaller but there was plenty of space. Here is it loaded with two 40lb bags of corn and it still has 6 or so inches of strap on each side for more expansion. Weight will become an issue before space for expansion.

Reviving an old one here…now that they are being replaced with the 30 & 40 (and prices dropped!) I ordered a Pop Up 28 from Black Ovis. Got it in and loved it for 15mins until I noticed the MOLLE/pals webbing on the left side of the hip belt was sewn all outta whack. First slot is 3/4” or less. Nothing going through it and it doesn’t come close to being lined up with the allegedly matching slot below. Black ovis was great and sent out another as soon as I gave them tracking on my return received it tonight, a same freaking issue! Is this normal for Mystery Ranch???? After all the good I’ve heard about these packs, I have been very disappointed. Dare I try again?? Pic is from the second pack that was delivered tonight.F0B3817F-1B2B-4A3B-89F3-FBFD16C84C99.jpeg

My old style pop up has different pals webbing so it’s not a good comparison. My Beartooth 80 is made the same way but there is additional Pals webbing behind the sleeve on the belt so you don’t have to use that short one. It looks like they made it that way because the top of the sleeve is shorter than the bottom. @gcr0003 had some pouches on his new version, maybe he can shed some light on how to attach them.

Got another question to y’all about my Pop-up…first frame(ish) hunting pack and loving it.
I ordered the small/medium because of the waist belt and was under the impression and was told by Black Ovis or MR (can’t remember) that the waist belt was the only size difference. When looking at other packs I measured myself at 21” and this says 15-20 in on the yoke…. Anyone with a large have something different? I’m still playing with the adjustments to learn how to properly fit it to me, but was concerned when I noticed this tonight. Feedback appreciated.

Been holding it with 50# of sand and almost maintaining my splits down here on the coast trying to prepare for a vacation with family to hike in the Rockies this summer. Pack seems to handle it great but I don’t really have a point of reference.

Never messed with that pack but from what I am hearing it sounds like the real issue would be your ability to manipulate the weight via the load lifters and how much weight you feel on your shoulders.

Yeah, you can see on this page that the L/XL is for a 17-24" torso. From my experience I would go with the torso measurment over the waist measurement as the determining factor. I have a 33/34" waist and I have a L and have worn my father's XL pop up. The large fits me well, with the XL there is some extra strap hanging down when I really cinch the waist belt down but, it's not close to bottoming out and could easily be cut off if it was an issue.

I know I’ve seen people put a Pintler on the PU frame but has anyone tried it with a Sawtooth 45?

Incase anyone is interested. I was able to put sawtooth in the PU frame. Frame is a S/M, it’s a bit much bag for it but it works.

I re-routed the top straps from sawtooth and attached to back of bag and then buckled to the top of frame as shown.

the strap in ST that connects it to GL frame can* attach around frame but is a pain if storing anything in meatshelf

Speaking of rerouting, I just saw the thread below on hunttalk and tried it on my 28. Love it! Slouch solved.

Yeah that’s how mine was connected! You can see the buckles attaching to the ST45 are coming up from that side of handle as well to get a more snug fit

@BPAUGH777 saw your DIY thread - check out my post a couple above this one.

I attached pintler and sawtooth45 to my PU frame. The bags a a bit big for my S/M frame but it works!
