Forgive my ignorance if this seems like a dumb question, but could you just use the 35cm jammy on oplux for your tether if you aren't introducing much, if any slack to it?

I use my linemans all the way up to ROS. Then once I'm on ROS I hook up tether. Take up slack till linemans is loose and stow it away. Does that make sense?

Yes. I only introduced the ripstop as an added safety measure in the event I introduce more than a foot of slack in my tether. If I were only using the tether at height, always loaded, the ripstop wouldn’t be necessary.

I should probably make it more clear that was the whole point.

No worries. Thanks for clearing that up for me! It makes sense to add the ripstop if your system is introduced to slack on a regular basis.

Where did you get that bushing that protects the ripstop connected to the caribiner? I could use some of those.

I am running the same setup. Petzl String size L, double check that based on the measurement. Comes in a 10 pack. I tried using castration bands and although they worked, the String is much better for this use.

A ripstop or screamer would be a good option for me as I typically use a tether to girth hitch to the tree and a second bridge as I climb SRT/RAD. There can be a little slack in the tether as I move up the rope. Having some shock absorption there can only be a good thing. Will have to take a harder look at this.

I'm not positive, but it appears your ripstop is upside down. I would read over the instructions for setup one more time and double check.

Remember - this doesn't eliminate all risk from putting slack in an anchor system. That rope and prusik will not give at ALL. Please do some math, and get familiar with how much force you can generate, even with short falls.

Stay safe!

I'm not sure that it would matter which way the DMM ripstop is oriented. Seems to me it would work the same either way. I think the guys in the test video HERE even had it oriented "upside down", and it worked fine.

@kyler1945 read this post a few weeks ago so looked into the DMM ripstop and saw a few sites that said it was discontinued. But it still looks like DMM has it listed on their site. You know anything about this? I looked at a few options and went with the Petzl Asap'sorber 20cm and the same DMM shackel. I think the Petzl is slightly shorter and I liked that it was wrapped in a case so that the threads are never exposed. Fits nicely on my jx3. Thanks for the great post!

Know nothing about the discontinuation. Looks like a similar device. Good luck!

I want to incorporate an energy absorber to my tether set up and also move to a dynamic rope. However, all the ones mentioned here seem to no longer be produced.

Anyone have a recommendation from a well known climbing company to get one of these that is still being produced?

Thanks - R

Yates screamer, petzl nitro, I think the dmm ripstop is still be made. Try camp-USA. Any of those fit the bill?

One thing to keep in mind is the length of the absorber. The longer it is, the more distance you add between your bridge and the prusik, so you need to put your tether and prusik that much higher to get your saddle at the same height your used to. That can be pretty high, especially if you're a leaner. I also use the same rope for tether/rappel, so have a biner on each end of the absorber to easily remove it when retrieving the rope. The second biner adds even more length.

The standard Yates screamer is 9" and the shorty screamer is 6.5", which is the shortest one I could find (that isn't discontinued). The Petzl asap'sorber I have is 7.8" and I'll probably try the Yates Shorty to get the total length down a bit.

Take a look at photo below. I girth hitched the ripstop to the jammy and then looped it to the rope. Wouldn't this work and eliminate the shackle without compromising rating? Or am I missing something?

Great system btw. Love everything about it so far...

Where did you get the stopper ball in this system?... I got one with my JX3 setup, but it is obviously for bigger ropes?... I‘D love to introduce one of these for an Oplux tether setup going forward. Thanks
