Need help with a Colorado Muzzloader setup

I actually forgot about those tbh.
Don't they also convert the Rem 700 action to muzzleloaders? I remember looking at them before I got my CVA Wolf.

Yes quite a few gunsmiths convert many different bolt actions to s Smokeless system. I was going to go the Rem 700 route but the break action 4570 was a cheaper way to go (around $550 for the rifle and conversion when I did it) and shoots awesome

I have a Savage 10ML also. But I am using BH209. Inherited this when my father in-law passed away, it had never been fired. What smokeless load are you using?

with my 10ML I always shot 5744( I think I will have to look and don't take my word for that) and I used a lee dipper for the powder charge as its a more forgiving powder. I also shot Dead Center 260 bullets and they do a awesome job. Most of the deer I shot have been DRT or very little run after the shot. I have quite a few of those bullets if you'd like to try some and also a lee dipper set. Let me know if you'd like to try it as a smokeless.....but again do your own research as to the size of the dipper you will need for the charge you want.

I just tried Blackhorn 209 in my CVA wolf. I did notice a long delay between the primer going off and the powder igniting.
I am assuming that is from not having the breach plug designed for it?

Definitely need the correct breach plug. It has a reservoir for loose powder to settle down closer to the primer. Plugs designed for packed pellets like T7 and Pyrodex to sit on won’t be effective with BH 209. Also the primer is a critical component for successful ignition. The shotgun primer should fit the breach plug well and be hot burning. Federal 209A and CCI 209M work very well.

Thanks! I am going to order one. The Blackhorn did ignite with the stock plug, but was a very there was a very noticeable 2 second delay from trigger pull to boom.
I did love how much cleaner Blackhorn 209 is compared to Pyrodex pellets.

About 2 years back or so I ordered a breach (for Black Horn) for my Savage ML10, I'm not a great shot with my eyes but 110 grains BH209 and PowerBelt Aero Tip 295 grainers I was shooting 2.5 groups at 100 yards. Only shot one doe back then but she only went about 25 yards.

I have a T/C Omega from 2004-05. I was using the 209 primers but then around 2010-2012 I stumbled upon this website. Precision bullets. https://www.prbullet.com/

Prior to finding this website I was using powerbelts and pellets. I guess I got decent groups but nothing to write home about. When I stumbled on the precision website I was at the time looking at Black Mag 3 powder and at the time was the cleanest loose powder that I found...and somehow i was able to get a 1lb of it from walmart. My wife actually stopped off at mid-way in Tennessee and brought me 2 lbs of BM3 and when before they went out of business me and some guy on the internet bought 8lbs. I had it shipped to my house and sent him the other 4#. I still have about 3-4 1/2#'s of BM3 and don't think I'll ever have to change powder.

When I took the gun out I started with 110 grains of powder and a 330 grain bullet from precision. That was a total killer...Any deer I hit did not go further than 30 yards and 90% of the deer I shot was planted on the spot they died. I eventually ran out of the 330 grains and at the time I was a cheapo and lucked out and found on ebay a gun store closing it's door. They had about 30 packs of 330 grain, 20 packs of 300 grain and 10 packs of 195 grain precision bullets. I bought them all and now down to the 300 and 195 grain bullets. My load is 110 grains of Black Mag3 and a 300 grain precision bullet. I tell you all this because I spoke with the owner of the precision and he told me that the 209 does not burn all the powder in the barrel...to hot or something along those lines. Leaves a lot of residue from T7 powder. Told me about the breech plug that is designed for a pistol primer and how it burns more of the powder thus making the gun more accurate. I gave it a try and my groups did tighten up.

Here is what I have and how the 209 adds to more fouling.

Here is the bullet that I use...https://www.prbullet.com/ee.htm
Exterior ballistics table https://www.prbullet.com/bal.htm

I even bought his super rat for my ramrod... https://www.prbullet.com/shop/products_view.php?sSKU=0522

.25 ACP breech plug for Omega/Encore .45 or .50 cal https://www.prbullet.com/shop/products_view.php?sSKU=0521

There is a wealth of information on the site...biased yes...but a lot of information.

Blackhorn 209 with an amazon jewelers scale to measure. Make sure you use cci 209m primers or federal 209A. The powder definitely does better with a hot magnum primer. If you cant find any right now for a REASONABLE price let me know. I stumbled on a thousand for 40 bucks so i can spare a pack ;)
This was my first season with a muzzleloader but i put a lot of range time in. I found 80gr by weight and a 290 gr sabot worked best. i tried everything from 70-84 gr and different sabot weights to find what groups best. With the omega BP you dont have to worry about changing it like CVA to accommodate BH209. it should already have a reservoir for the loose powder. MY dad uses powerbelts and they are very accurate. The negatives i have heard from guys who used them in sikaville is not accuracy but lack of expansion.
Sucks you cant use sabots in CO. Im jealous!!!! still trying to throw an archery trip together for next season or the following but hard to find a buddy with enough free time

oh and get a 20 pack of plastic test tubes for the range. Its a real PITA weighing all your loads but the accuracy outweighed the extra work. shrunk my groups big time

Snagged a pile of these cheap & was gonna premeasure a bunch of loads...... oh & here’s those bullets I’m trying. If I end up using the omega then I’ll probably leave the scope on for now just to see how they group then can put a peep on closer to season to get dialed in. 55F95D0A-82AB-4A0D-BE29-494D980A2B6E.jpegD6EB2212-E917-4A80-B0A7-DE21127BCC8E.jpeg

Federal Bor-lock muzzleloading bullets are expressly allowed in Colorado and have some pretty decent reviews. they have a 270 grain solid copper and a 350 grain lead version. I haven't shot any yet myself but I plan on trying the copper version when I start getting ready for a trip to Colorado for muzzleloader season.

I know it an old thread but I’ll add. I really like the federal borlok bullets. They load easy and do a great job on elk. Power belt has been horrible. A good friend is an outfitter and will try to get his clients to change if they are shooting PB. Thor is another good choice along with No Excuse. I shoot a CVA with the plug upgrade for BH powder. I will be changing out the site but overall the gun is good.
