In for the recovery. You’ll get him.
What angle? Broad side or quarter too?So I just hit a nice buck but I think I hit his elbow and maybe got 6” of penetration. Shot placement and blood pics are below. What are your thoughts, current plan is to wait another 1.5hrs and follow. Shot him around 3:35pm. I only trailed 20 yards or so and he was opening up more at the 20 yard mark. Shot with fixed 2 blade. Thanks gents. Hoping for the best.
Disregard previous comment. I see you found him. Congrats!Went 100 yards! Thanks fellas for your input and optimism!! Shredded his left lung and he fell right out of sight.

So it looked like I actually got about 8” of penetration give or take but it was hard to tell from the arrow which was loosely hanging out of his shoulder when I found him. The arrow stayed in him, his left lung was torn apart but I didn’t make a large hole in the chest cavity and heart and right lung seemed intact which makes me think more like 4-6” of penetration but idk. The blood trail was moderate with bubbles through out the trail and not super difficult to follow. He stopped at about 75 yards and the blood there was darker and less bubbles with a decent 15” diameter puddle so I think him running cut on of the arteries coming out of the heart. He went an additional 25 yards or so from that point and crawled in a downed tree and fell over. My buddy knew a local tracking dog so I called him as a just in case. He said he wanted to bring his dog if I didn’t mind so we had a blood hound on it. Once I put that dog on the blood at the shot it took all of at best 5 minutes for that dog to find him. We would have found him without the dog but was about 10 times faster and a cool experience bc I’ve never seen a dog work a blood trail before in person.Did you do an autopsy?
how much penetration did you get?
did the arrow stay in him cutting things as he ran or did it fall out quickly?
blood trail?
cavity full of blood?
Congrats that’s a beautiful deer.
