I really like that thing. However, I’d like it a lot better if it had a channel in the back like the EWO steps have so it only needed one bolt. Don’t like having to drill more holes in my stick to mount it. Just unnecessary in my mind.

It does have a channel in the back for 1” tube.

Intersting. Then why the need to 2 bolts? Is it that much different than a standard EWO step engineering wise?
Bec it's made to fit on any post. 1" tubing has a a tolerance. For example ewo steps wobble on novix single stick tubing. As little of weight as a bolt is, I'd prefer 2 with no wobble

I agree completely! I have timber ninjas and ,the bottom steps especially, wobble noticeably. Not like your going to fall but it's definitely there. Just use two bolts and clamp it instead of creating a pivot point, way cheaper that fitting individual parts. Just my opinion

Hmmm…I have EWO steps on my EWO stick and they don’t wobble at all. It‘s not about the weight of the bolt, I just don’t like to drill extra holes in my stick if I don’t need to.

Not every 1" tube is created equal. Some have square corners. Some have more rounded corners. lots of variables. Ewo steps have a very shallow notch. On rounded corners like Novix they wobble

All the stick platforms I’ve seen use two bolts. The EWO Lower Step included. That one weighs 21oz.

Real Deal Amsteel’s Lookout Bottom Step weighs 9oz.

It’s the bomb.

I was viewing it more as a step than a platform. I like it a lot, just really didn’t want to have to drill more holes in my stick because I don’t have a press and sloppy or offset holes lead to slack and are difficult to fix.

I put these on an EWO stick. I did drill the 2nd hole for the bottom step. My EWO stick already had 2 holes on top from a UP.
Be aware the holes on these steps are bigger then the holes drilled into the EWO stick. The tube fits nice on the step but I had to find bushing to insert into the steps because you have to use the EWO bolt for the stand off. Seems fine but I haven't climbed with it yet. Also I'm amazed the groove on the top step to put your rope into was left sharp.I filed that down some. If I did it all over again I'd get the EWO lower step and just leave the top step alone.

FWIW I have a drill press but just used a vix bit and a drill to center the hole. I haven't bought one for awhile but a vix bit is probably about $10. Worked perfect

The bolts holes are 5/16...the ewo uses 1/4in bolts. But having 2 1/4in bolts with a 5/16 hole as well as a channel for a 1in tube you will have absolutely no wiggle or problems. I wanted them 5/16 because thats the hardware i will be using with the sticks i will be selling and half of the standoffs on the market use 5/16 bolts. Also if they had 1/4in holes and you have a muddy pro then someone would have to drill the platform to 5/16 to be able to use it...having a 5/16 hole eliminates all these issues.

EWO makes standoff brackets for 5/16" hardware. So thats an option, and a good starting place if building from scratch.

Im sure its fine and all but I didnt like it. So I found some bushing and made it fit nice. I bought one step used and you could see on the paint were some movement occured between the step and bolt

This was kind of why I was looking at it to begin with. I would leave my UP on top, I was just thinking that the bigger bottom step might alleviate some of the shin fights that I have with the UP by getting your feet an inch or two outward on the stick. Also was thinking about running it on top as part of a semi minimal setup with a seperate platform. I just saw lots of options for it. That bushing info is really key info. Thanks for that as well. Not familiar with a vix bit, but I’m sure I can find the info on it. Thanks for your input.

The ultimate one stick with ULS and UP all rigged out is over 6lbs. Might as well just bring a set of sticks with you.

Yeah, I’m like you. I couldn’t sleep at night knowing there was slack in there. Maybe @SRT Saddle Hunter will start selling a bushing for 1/4” setups so anal guys like us can sleep at night. Lol. Looks like a nice piece of kit for sure.

Ha! Ha! You ain’t wrong. Except even at the same weight, sticks seem more fiddley, although you don’t have to fool with going around limbs. As usual, it’s all about tradeoffs and which ones you like and which ones you don’t like.
