New Bow Advice

And if you are comfortable tuning your own bow, there are ripping deals on Archerytalk. That is where I purchased my new bow. Was going to buy a lightly used Realm for $550. The guy who was selling it was a small dealer in the midwest, and after talking with him, I ended up with a Realm X. Purchased it from him brand new for for $750 shipped to my door. That bow would have cost me $1100 plus 6.25% tax here in Mass.

You can find bows there that are one or two years old for almost half price of new. Many guys there are buying and selling bows multiple times a year.

Here is a pic of the last bow I will probably will ever purchase :)

I did the same thing but got a bowtech rpm 360. I had owned several Mathews (q2xl, sq2, and an outback that I still have). I really like the bowtech cam system and it is really easy to tune. I had it tuned/bare shaft and with fletching through paper in 30 minutes. I really love the bow but it eats through cable servings. I build my own strings for it so it doesn't take much time to fix the serving. I have a way to get the serving tighter now which should help.

I do think they all make really good bows and there isn't much difference between top and bottom brands as there was in the past. I think I shocked my wife when I bought it used. After having kids, I really got frugal with my money.

New to the site. Been trolling for some time but thought I'd echo some previous comments. I own a newer Bowtech and Mathews. Both are easy to tune and technically well designed. Bowtech is more adjustable as is, without buying new mods, etc. Mathews is quieter and a bit smoother. But they are not the only manufacturers. Shoot as many as you can and let the bow and your feel make the decision for you. You may be surprised what you end up with. And by all means, shoot what you have for now. You may decide you still love it! My favorite bow was my good old 2008 General.

Prioritize what you want in a bow:

Is price a factor?

Size of bow a factor? If so, check out Gearhead Archery for their innovative designs.

Reputation?

Speed, quietness, ect...

Don’t rely on magazines to tell you much, as there are plenty of brands not even looked at by the magazines.
