I have been lurking here for about a year. Time to join. I’m from Colorado in a little town southeast of Denver. Trying for my first public land whitetail this year in Kansas. Being from the west, whitetail is very different hunting. Can’t wait to smash a huge bull from my saddle!

Welcome from Arkansas! How's CO been with all the fires this season? That's one of the things I don't miss from there.

Welcome from Northern Virginia. I have family from Boulder, Broomfield and Denver and I grew up stomping around in Cripple Creek and Red Feather Lakes. I’m envious. Good luck this season.

Thanks for the welcome. The fires have been bad but most are out. There are two good fires still burning but things are looking ok. Hopefully we get some rain.

I used to work in Broomfield for years, lived in Brighton and Thornton. I love it up around Red Feather, used to hunt and camp some around there...I wonder how bad the fire is tearing it up.

That fire is burning up some good grounds. I’m sure Beetle kill is a large source of fuel for these.

Welcome from MO! I've been thinking of heading that direction in a few years, looks like a few units might be good for whitetails/saddle hunting on the eastern part of the state. How do you hunt whitetails out there?

We have a few whitetail and the are usually big. Here in the east it’s usually spot and stalk hunting due to the lack of trees. However, the eastern part of Colorado is mostly private. I would recommend having access before applying for the tag. It difficult due to outfitters but there is always a chance.
