Hello everyone... Lurker for a few months and just joined today (don't ask why it took me so long, lol).

I'm from the south suburbs in IL and hunt mostly public land in IL but I have access to a small couple acre location that is in a transition zone between public & lots of private land. It butts up to a creek and one neighbor on the side (the other side has more land for sale). I met that neighbor two years ago & she asked what I was doing. I said bow hunting for deer & she said "Sorry, but I haven't seen any deer around here". Well, tell that to my trail cameras, lol. I got a lot of nice bucks on the cameras but only a few have come by during shooting hours. I'd love to hear any suggestions about how to "re-train" those deer to come by more often during daylight hours, lol. I had one monster come by during rut shooting hours to say hi on my camera, but of course I wasn't there at the same time. I also hunt in WI about an hour west of Wausau on some land that my wife's uncle owns.

I am waiting on a Cruzr XC saddle to arrive, a Predator XL platform to arrive, and I will be using API sticks that my daughter helped me camo to get me on the trees. Bow season in IL starts October 1 & a cold front will be sticking around through the weekend. It should be a good time to be in the woods if the wind & rain stay away.

Have a great day everyone!

Welcome from Maryland! When you figure out how to get deer to work on your schedule, let me know.... might just have to wait on that spot until the rug & have does do it for you

Welcome from WNY. I just received my Cruzr the other day and you will love it. I had to cancel my XL and buy a Mission because I couldn't take the chance of not having it for opening day. My bad for not ordering it earlier but the Mission is nice. Good luck this season!

Thanks for all of the warm welcomes so far. I think at my small parcel, it does make sense to try and only hunt that property around the rut. I do enjoy going to check the trail cameras though. I had a nice double brow 14 pointer show up multiple times last year at night. Last year, I hung a daytime scent dripper at the end of October but it hadn't generated any deer activity near it during daylight hours like I would have expected. And for that fact, the deer seemed non-responsive to it, and I had it dripping down into a mock scrape I made underneath it. I've seen more response from deer on public land from scent drippers & wick sticks than on the private land I hunt. I'm debating about putting it out this year all together and take my chances not luring them in or giving them a suspicion something is different about that area.
