Hey all. Im from Montana born and raised and will probably always be here lol. A quick history.... ive been a rifle hunter since legal age and bow hunted for the first season last year. Here in Montana were now well into our season for the year and the more i bow hunt the more i realize that even though some people may have what it takes, i do not have the stealthyness to spot and stock whitetail to sub 60yds in which im comfortable to shoot. Learning this over the last 2 seasons and finding a random old stand in the mountains i sat for an afternoon and fell in love (thats probably a big no, no but i left it as i found it) has eventually brought me here after looking at tree stands of all kinds. I heard that saddle hunting is just not for some people and before I make the jump im wondering if i might be making a mistake jumping straight to a saddle? I spend 60% of my time in a harness for work building 30ft comercial concrete foundations and im definitely not scared of heights or bothered in any way by a harness. Im also hoping for some un biased opinions on the +/- of an areo hunter vs. Tethrd saddle? Im also wondering if one would fit my body type better being 5'10 155lbs im not the bigges framed guy? All guidance and opinions are highly appreciated. Thank you for your time in advance! Also if there is anyone around Missoula, Montana that uses a saddle that may be willing to show me the ropes or maybe looking for a hunting partner occasionally send me a pm.

Welcome from Maryland! As far as unbiased review for the the 2 mentioned above..... you’re gonna get a huge split telling you how great each one is . It’s kinda like Ford vs Chevy.... if I had never been in a saddle before I’d probably lean towards Aerohunter b/c it’s not as minimalist...... but take that with a grain of salt ( someone else could make the same argument the other way) saddles are personal gear! But given you’re occupation, sounds like a natural fit.

I kinda figured the opinion thing would be exactly as you describe lol. But thank you for yours.

Welcome from coastal NC! Wish I was in Montana, I always wanted to live there or Alaska!

Welcome from Indiana! I just bought my first saddle this year. I went w the Mantis. I have zero complaints. I was able to figure it out with zero prior experience between the forum and a lot of their YouTube videos.

Welcome from SE Wisconsin. There is a Google map for saddle hunters. You maybe able to check it to see if anyone is close by.

If you want to try it without buying one there are plenty of DIY saddles that can be made for hardly any money(Wraptor, fleece saddle, Wraith, etc.....) So check into them to wet your feet if you want to try it without going all in!

I'll be honest, I didn't read your post, but my wife is from Montana and I've had a few drinks so I figured I should say hi or my wife might get upset I wasn't nice to another Montanan....

PS. I'll read your post in the morning after the whiskey wears off...

Welcome from Arkansas. As stated above, the difference in opinions, on different saddles is definitely like Ford, Chevy, Ram. Even though I haven’t tried em all, I’ve been around this forum enough to know, that even with the loyalties that people have there are definitely differences in the fit for specific body types. You being 5’10 and 155 would not have any issues with a kestrel or a mantis. As stated the Mantis is a little more minimalist so if you don’t have much of a butt, it might not fit as well. Hopefully someone is near enough to you for you be able to try one or two on.

Thanks for the insight. I did assume that due to my build one might fit better than the other. Now i just need someone my size thats tried both to know the difference lol. L keep doing my homework and eventually find the answers im looking for.
