New from South Louisiana. Thumb release?

Bought a Stan Shootoff used this year. After hitting myself in the jaw 3 times decided to wait till after season to see if I like it better than wrist release. Found it hard to hook onto string when in a hurry. Have shot at many deer more than once. It seems like it would be hard to get a second shot. Arrow out of quiver nock on string flip up rest then try to hook release back to string without making much movement or noise. The Shootoff was tough I’m sure there are some that aren’t as hard to hook to string. Hard to do but the few times I didn’t hit myself I did like the anchor better seemed easier to get it in the same place every time. I started a thread on AT about trying a Thumb release and most people came back with you have to move peep up but DL stays the same. Two guys said they use both and don’t change setup at all.

I love my shootoff. I use the four finger variety. I have never hit myself in the face, but I did send an arrow into the dirt on let down once. I had been holding on an elk that just wouldn't take that final step to clear a tree. My arms were shaking and I must have hit the trigger as I let down.

I carry two of them. One in my pack and one in my pocket. Once I get an arrow knocked and bow hanging, I attach my release.

I will have to pull it out tonight, but I think I recock it with one hand. I can't really remember because it has just become habit.

I hit myself drawing my own fault didn’t keep thumb behind trigger turned right around and did it again next time I drew. Blood second time did it one other time too. I will give it a good chance this off season. I blew my pinky finger off in 82 on a shrimp boat right hand and ring finger is frozen in a hook. I got the Shootoff three finger and like the way I grip it and it draws fine. But I have to really pay attention when hooking to string small hook on release then push it over and cock it with my finger. I guess I’m not used to it yet. I have a new bow and am going to set it up for Shootoff. Then we’ll see.

Here I was thinking I'd be the oddball using a Shootoff but half the board are using them :D
