Cheapest route if you aren't sure is to get the climbing sticks of your choice a rock climbing harness and a sit drag or fleece saddle. If you decide you don't like it(which won't happen btw) you can use the climbing sticks with a hang on and you don't have an expensive saddle to try and offload and sticks that you can use anyway. I'm a big fan of spending the cash on the climbing systems!

Welcome to the club 3blade. I'm in western pa not sure where u r. The biggest thing about saddle hunting that I've figured out over the 10 plus years I've been hunting out of my trophy line tree saddle is play around with different things because what is comfortable and easy for one person might not be for another person.

There's a lot of guys smarter than me on this forum that do a lot of saddle diy stuff and if ur first starting out they can definitely help you out but don't overlook the ready made saddles like the aerohunter or the guido tree spider. I never trusted myself enough to use a diy saddle lol.

Also just remember there's always a learning curve with saddle hunting which will probably be a lot shorter for you bc of this forum so don't get discouraged just keep practicing.

For those who have asked I'm in central PA around Harrisburg . Thank you for the different ideas guys! Does your tether while in a saddle ever get in the way of drawing your bow? Also as a right handed shooter it is easy to shoot to the left side of the tree. If a buck comes in on the right side of the tree in my stand I just spin around. How would you shoot to the right side of the tree while wearing a saddle?

The tether won't get in the way, but you have to practice with your setup to make sure you know how to do everything before you're in a hunting situation. If you don't practice and know your system, then it might. To shot to the right you can either walk around the tree to the left, or walk around the tree to the right and then pivot your body to shoot. Again this will take practice to know what you can do and then do it when hunting. My best advice is practice practice and practice more at ground level to get comfortable with your system.

Thank you Redsquirrel! I think I will hit up YouTube to see how other guys are doing it.

If you have a small platform you don't have to move as much, took me a long time to figure that out, way too long! I also lost a good opportunity opening day because I didn't practice enough, and I'm still kicking myself lol. It was the 4-5 o'clock shot. Which is probably the toughest shot. On a platform just at stand up and turn to your left and keep going to make the weak side shot. I think flingin put up a photo of his tether wrapped around him demoing the shot. The other way to do it is to go over your bridge and rotate your hips, which might be less overall movement but is a little harder shot. I think g2 and DaveTboth have videos on the topic.

Thank you. I have seen some of DaveT and Flings video's. I will watch some more of them. I actually found this sight because of one of Flings video's I watched. I'm seeing a lot of other guys on here that do video's as well and have been watching and learning as much as I can.
Is there a cheat sheet section as far as terminology as to what some of the names of things mean like Knader and Acsender and other words?
There seems like a lot to learn or maybe that stuff isn't nessacery to know?

There is a basic terminology in the New Saddle Hunter Section and then a Noobie write-up that I did just trying to consolidate a lot of the info, I should add the kaider, swaider stuff to the WE Stepp section but it's a really good start.

Thank you guys for the warm welcome! There is so much info on this forum it is going to take me awhile to figure out what is going to work best for me. I was thinking about climbing sticks and a lock-on stand more then a saddle but I'm going to keep reading and watching your guys videos and see what I think will work best. Thank you!
I live about 45 min north of Harrisburg. I have a kestrel and an unmodified sitdrag. If you want to get your hands on a saddle and try it out. At least you can make an informed decision when explaining to your wife the purchases you have in the new saddle gear!

That’s a good picture but I don’t think a lot of people put the tether around the tree twice. I know I don’t and don’t carry a long enough one for larger trees.

Not sure how that screen shot got there, interesting, @redsquirrel has hacked all of our computers! Putting the tether once around some of the larger trees is more than enough, I like a higher tether than most and will probably make a longer one for this reason.

Hi guys! I have been a hardcore bowhunter for the past 25 years. With that said I'm always on the move and portable but I with a Summit Viper on my back. I'm to the point now that I'm tired of carrying the extra weight around and having to limit my selection to a nice strait tree that never seems to be in the right spot. With that said I'm intrested in sticks and saddles and after lurking for awhile I just had to join. It seems like you guys are a great community willing to share ideas and doing it the safe way! Thank you
Welcome. I'm from SW PA .you can learn alot from the guys on this site. I am also strictly a bowhunter for deer and Turkey. You will love saddle hunting it's the only way to hunt for me.
