Hey guys,

My name is Ashley. Not only am I new to saddle hunting, I'm new to hunting in general. I have only gone out 3 times ever, and that was last weekend. I'm one of those guys whose grandfather gave up on hunting before he was born and my dad was not in to it at all. So all I know so far is what I can glean from youtube, which actually seems to be quite a bit.

When I was researching all that is when first getting started with hunting I quickly gravitated to the saddle idea. It seams safer (I'm a big guy... 6'5" and 300 lbs) than climbing stands and since I only have access to public land right now the idea of anything not lightweight and portable seems like a waste of time and effort. I ordered my saddle, an Aero Kestrel Flex, yesterday so who knows if I will actually get to use it this season, but I figured if I'm gonna do it, do it right. In the mean time I will be hunting on the ground 'till it gets here and once the season opens back up in a couple weeks.

I'm really excited so far with how much information is available on this site as well. Thank you to all the contributors.

Take it easy and Merry Christmas,
Ashley

Hey Ashley,

Welcome to the site and hunting in general! It’s always a great time - glad you’re getting into it.

We’ve got some similarities in our backgrounds - my dad didn’t hunt a whole lot besides duck, and geese. He was/is primarily a fly fisherman for trout/salmon. Grandpa didn’t do much hunting either. I got into deer hunting when I was maybe 18-19 years old. You can learn lots by yourself but I’d also see if you could make some local buddies who’re into hunting. I ended up learned a lot from my brother in-law.

I’m in the bigger guy category myself; 6’3 250 lbs. safety was a big reason I even started looking into saddle hunting as well. Attached to the tree the entire time. I’m still waiting on my AeroHunter also but I’m looking forward to not banging through the woods with a climber anymore.

Hope you enjoy it here! Lots of knowledgeable people willing to share tips/advice. If you’ve got any questions please ask and I’m sure someone can help.

Patrick

Ne fla... You have lots of public to choose from out the way. I started hunting in my 30s. Best way to learn is to be out in the woods. Take what you read on the internet with a grain of salt.....95% of what you'll read and see on the internet doesn't really work in Florida especially public land.

Welcome aboard from Pa. Everyone is very helpful so ask away if you have any questions.
