New saddle build

Got my grey vinyl coated polyester mesh in for my seat. It wasn't as dark as I thought it would be but the solid side will be against my bottom anyway. I really like the stuff. I added my belt with cobra buckle. The saddle feels real good. Identical to my modded sit/drag but I feel a lot better about my stitching and materials. It weighs in at 12.3 oz and an unmodified sit/drag was at 6.7oz on my scale. Seems like a winner.

That is a bad a$$ looking piece of DIY kit! Well done. Looks bomb proof!

I picked up a bunch of trampoline mesh from the side of the road. Is the stuff your using stronger, lighter, more durable? The trampoline mesh is seriously tough stuff.

What do you have total in the seat? Webbing, mesh, buckle. Ballpark is fine.

I have no idea. Bought pieces here and there over the last year. I know the mesh was $12/ yard plus shipping and all I need was a little piece. It stung but I'll find a use for the stuff. I think it's the same as the trampoline mesh. It's just like what a lot of loc-on seats are using these days like the millennium stands. Very quiet, water proof, strong and light. I posted a link of where I bought it in an earlier post.
Got polyester webbing from strap works in 2in. Think I bought 30ft for other projects and mess ups. One thing I learned, the polyester webbing is tight weaved and tough to sew through. Nylon is a lot softer and easy with multi layers. Got the 2in plastic cobra buckle from milspec monkey. Don't remember the price.

Just bought one. Its about 11 bucks, just over 5 for each piece.

I like it. I bought a yard of that mesh too. We should probably start cutting it up and sending pieces to others. I can't afford to use it all!!!! haha It would cost $200 in buckles. Plus I only have one butt and several slings/saddles already.

I'm curious about your belt. Wondering if you will be comfortable with that running so close to your loops.

That's a great looking saddle.

Not sure what you mean about the belt. They don't interfere with the loops.

I mean if the belt is sewn in too long or too close to the end, when you buckle it you will be pulling the sling in on the sides. The pressure would be on the belt buckle vs the sling.

It's made where the belt is coming off the saddle at the back of my hips. Can't tell in the pic. Belt isn't squeezing the saddle at all.

That sounds perfect then. From the perspective of the pics, it looked like it may have been stitched up past them. Go kill one with it!!!

Used this saddle the other day. Hung for 5 hours. It was pretty comfy. I had a rock climbing harness under it with side lineman belt loops sewn on. That caused a pressure point where my saddle hugged against the loops on my rock climbing harness. With a little maneuvering of the saddle I worked that out. I still want to make a hammock saddle and Dave platform. My feet on the ameristeps was uncomfortable. Don't remember that issue last year. Don't know what changed.
Anyway had a doe and 2 fawns come in at last light. Enjoyed watching them play. Didn't enjoy what I found when I decided on a tree. The devil (water moccasin) was waiting on me!

Nice, Swamp.

I learned from the Ken sling, Anderson and my testing that you can build up support (webbing and thread but don't know how to say it) that work very well. They will keep the three horizontal pieces of webbing forced to stay separated. I don't know if you are having the issue where it wants to bunch up under you, especially on the ends. Having your loops come off like that, under weight with a carabiner it pulls the two ends together. So using a different method of attaching to your bridge or reinforcing the ends has proven to help me.

Again, not sure if it is a problem you are having but if you want I can send you some pics of what I'm referring to. I see you have a piece of webbing that extends differently than I've seen in others which may already be serving the same purpose.

Looks really cool. I have a hammock concept that I've been playing with in my head too. Maybe we can nail that idea and make millions.

It doesn't bunch up at all with the trampoline type material. It was just the loops on my rock climbing harness were getting squeezed against me by the saddle. I just pushed the saddle lower under my butt to miss the loops on the rock climbing harness.

F that, I am so glad we don't have snakes like that here

I have a good pinch point in that area of the woods along the creek and it's the only place I see them at. I've never been to that spot and have not seen one. I'm on high alert when I go there. You would have loved belly crawling in a briar thicket following a hog blood trail in the summer at night. I was thinking the whole time, if I end up head to head with a snake I'm gonna have to bite 1st. Couldn't stand up, it was too thick. That was a long night. But in reality I bet I would have kicked it into high gear reverse!
I have a video of it somewhere.

Ummm... where is the South Park pic with the wheel barrel? If you had to follow thru with this, it would have to be your new avatar.
Cool that there is no hip pinch. Just thought I'd share what I observed. So you pulled that trampoline fabric pretty tight in the webbing, so that it is providing the support?

Ernie, I don't mind snakes like the one in that pic at all.... it's the live ones that freak me out.
