New straight wall off-season project, need input

I have a 450 Ruger bush master. If your daughter is going to use it . 350 legend would be a great choice, more enjoyable for her to shoot. Just my opinion. Be blessed

I'm in the SAME EXACT boat as you and I am going to buy two Ruger American Rifles in 450 Bushmaster they can hunt public ground in our home state as a back up to their Marlin 336c in 35 Remington which is prvt ground legal
But save for Turkey loads I do reload everything I shoot and shoot reloads out of all my CF rifles 95-98% of the time and plan on reloading for these rifles as well.
I feel for a 200 yard and under deer rifle you can not beat the 450 Bushmaster in a Ruger American rifle
To be absolutely honest the only reason I do not buy Savage 20ga 220 bolt slug guns is the cost of factory 20ga sabot ammo and you can not get the same components to reload as are used in factory Sabot ammo which is IMHO obscenely expensive vs my reloaded ammo.

I don't think that you can beat the AR platform for versatility and adjustability for shooters. If you're looking for a a budget upper I've had really good success with Bear Creek Armory. If you're comfortable building one, which is not hard when you buy a complete upper you can get a stripped lower for cheap and put the parts on you want. I suggest the LaRue 2 stage trigger for hunting and shooting because it's amazing and price is great on it. The magpul stocks are plenty good.

If MN ever removes there head from it's orifice and allows straight walls I'd probably build a 450BM just because I'm not recoil sensitive. But if I were building one for a kiddo to learn how to shoot and wanted it not drive them away from shooting I'd do the 350 legend. Both caliber's are easily capable for taking down white tails and many other things. Just like in archery shot placement is more important than anything else.

I also suggest the Walkers electronic ear pro in the ear bud style. I bought some this year and made sure to use them in the stand when I shot my deer with my AR pistol.

I am actually building a 350 for the upcoming season as we speak. Got it at the local BX during a sale last month and ended up with 40% off so walked away with about $600 in the gun. So far no complaints, but I still need more hands on time with it.been using a buddy of mines advice for everything as this is my first AR platform, so if anyone has any advice it would be appreciated.

I wanted a straight wall that was extremely nimble. I bought a rossi 92 stainless in 45 colt recently. Only thing I added was a sling, Im going to use full open factory sights. Most shots I have are under 100. I do have the longer ranging .270 and .243 so I have that covered. The .270 is my first choice in great weather but the gun is from the 50s so I wont take it in the rain/snow. Too much sentimental value.

That 45 colt, some of those +P loads really pack a punch on you. Slinging 325 grains out of a short little gun is awesome. I dont think I will opt for that load usually though, I dont feel its necessary for where I hunt.

My 9.5 year old 60lb son can freehand this rifle. The .243 he has to use a tripod.

Hope this is not political ,but the in coming government has it sites on the AR stuff . May become very expensive to own one or to own one at all .

I'd suggest shooting it a bunch with different ammo and see what groups the best. I settled on Federal Fusion this year and it performed very well out of my 7.62 pistol.

From there you can either upgrade your stock to something that allows a little better cheek/stock weld or replace what I assume is a mil spec trigger. Also ensure your magazines are quality and you don't have any feeding issues.

I am looking at triggers first to be honest. I was lookin at the Geissele SSA, however, someone above recommended the LaRue, so I may look at that as well when I get a free minute. Other recommendations welcome as well. Thanks for the info on ammo. I have the Hornady 170 American white tails, Winchester Deer Season 180 grains, and Deer Season 150 grains. I’ll get more testing in once I am done with our upcoming PCS to Delaware.

Might be political but after seeing the ATF go after P80 and then a couple weeks later attempt to go after pistol braces I think you're not wrong. I ordered two more stripped lowers just cause I want to be able to build a couple more if I feel like it.
