New Treehopper "Mini" Hand Drill Housings

Where was when they were handing all these drills out for free?

Yep. And I think there was talk of just the mini body for less? For those that already have an EZ-Kut and want to replace the housing?

I haven't talked to Mark for several week now but when he was 1st developing the mini handles, he said he wanted to sell just the body to anyone that already owned EZ bits so they could upgrade their rattle trap. I assume that's still the plan, but I need to touch base with him and get the latest update.

You paid for it but you don't know how much its going to be?....

Looks like most or some of the guys paid cash money. Most of them have pushed carbon/titanium and even regular grade 8 bolts enough in the last year that even if they got it for free I would consider it sweat equity.

I paid $59.95 for a full size drill and I also swapped a piece of ~$15 gear for the folding handle. During that time, we were collaborating on mini design and Mark said I could swap the full size for the mini when it was ready. When he had them finished, I bought a mini with a knob style handle for 60 bucks and I exchanged my full size for another mini and I put my folding handle on it.
Disclaimer...
Ive spent a lot of time testing and talking with Mark about drill designs and problem solving issues.
Mark was very thankful for my efforts and he was always trying to give me some freebies as a thank you...I've declined every freebie. Even a $5 adapter for cordless drills. I wanted to remain totally unbiased and not beholding to Mark when I posted on this and other forums about the drills.
Ive recieved no price breaks or other perks from Mark. I paid the same price as what anyone else sees on the Treehopper website.
Just didn't want anyone to have the wrong impressions.

I paid for a full size drill initially. Which I then kinda slammed on the forum when it didn't drill holes. Mark and I met at saddlepalooza and we swapped numbers. He expressed interest in fixing the problems, and thanked me for bringing them up. He listened to the feedback of myself @alleghenytom, and several others, and sent out some prototypes, which performed incredibly.

I admit that I didn't pay for my mini. I do remember offering to pay, and being told that he just wanted to make sure he had the best hand drill possible, and that he valued my feedback seeing as I was critical of the initial product.

@enkriss, you mentioned earlier that you wish you would have waited. Contact Mark on the website if you're not happy with your current drill. Everybody I've talked with has stated that Mark took care of any issues they had with the product. I know he retrofitted the bits for everybody that had the original ones. If you have a defective product, he would rather you have a functioning one.

If the regret stems from frustration at seeing folding handles and similar upgrades, I'm not sure what to say, other than that I bought a gen 1 predator and a kestrel with "old style" linemans loops and buckles. It is frustrating to have a new product be "outdated" in a matter of weeks or months. But it happens. I'd still say reach out to Mark and see what his thoughts are.

I understand if somebody suspects me of shilling for treehopper because I got a freebie, and I don't take offence. I'm a naturally suspicious guy myself. But I can honestly say that I started off my relationship with Mark by criticizing several flaws (bit, sleeve, lack of bit stop, punch pin to release bit, etc) and he took the feedback and ran with it. I'm endorsing him and his products for THAT, and not a free drill. It's my experience that most businesses like to talk about accepting feedback, but ultimately don't like negative feedback or ideas that aren't their own.

Dang... I was hoping that these wouldn’t turn out this awesome. Now I have to spend more money.

It will have to wait until after July, though. I’m pooling my money for a kayak.

Looks like the kit is now up and available from the website. Just not the foldable handle, which is what im most interested in.
