New York Doe tags. How many you get

I got two,one in 4F where i live and one for 7M which i will visit during bow season.
7R was a low chance i thought, and lucky you got two? Awesome. I am still waiting for mine to arrive in the mail. I guess they still have 30 days...

I always get 2 for 7R. It's near Ithaca and includes the Deer Management Focus area. You can get a special permit for the focus area and take up to two does per day. There's also an extra season in Jan. I hunt Robert Treman State Park for now season and the Jan season (bow only in the park)

I love that robert treman park,my wife and i go for walks there when we come through Ithaca. That would be fun to hunt there. I must be thinking of a different zone where doe tags were more difficult to get. 7J maybe? Its the one thats butts up to 4F on the west and sits below 7M. I have to check a map.
I just checked,i was thinking of 7P.

If you get a chance you should try the park for a couple of days. In Oct the camp ground is still open and you can camp right in the park. I always see a ton of deer.

No, you can hunt anywhere in the state with a buck tag, but only certain management units get Doe tags. The state is divided into 2 zones North and South. The Northern Zone basically covers the Adirondacks. The seasons go bow, gun, then Muzzleloader. The Northern Zone season starts earlier. Bow season starts in Sept, gun in October I think. My family belongs to a private club in the ADK. We head up election week, vote and then head North. The ADK is buck only. Up there it's still hunting and tracking. Less deer but the deer are big. The Southern Zone bow October, gun the second Saturday in Nov thru second week in December, then a week of Muzzleloader. The Southern Zone is farm land with lots of deer. Doe tags are issued for each management unit in the Southern Zone. Some zones issue more than others. Where herd the population is huge so your almost always get 2. The state also will re-release Doe tags for specific units closer to the start of the season. Last year I got 2 more on the re-release for the unit I hunt so I had a total of 4 Doe tags. The Doe tags are the State DEC's way of lowering the herd population. The Doe tags are supposed to only be used in that specific management unit. You can also transfer tags to another hunter to fill.

Keenan is correct but an important point is that these are management tags meant to reduce the population. The DEC calls them "Deer Management Permits" or DMP. The number of permits allocated per WMU (wildlife management unit) is tied to the current deer population and that unit's carrying capacity/management objectives.
The hope is that offering more doe tags will encourage more hunting and reduce the population.

In NY you get a bow/muzz deer tag, and regular season antlered tag and a regular season either sex tag. So you can still take a doe without using your DMP.

That is how I understand it. Everyone else understand it that way or am I off?

You are correct. And your regular season buck tag if unused turns into an either sex tag for muzzleloader season as well.

MD is a small state b7t we have similar things to help. Unlimited does in every county but 3. Lol. You can shoot during archery 20 a day or 100 a day...500 a day :dizzy: . Shooooot em up. Only 10 a dday during the 2 week firearms tho. We got some populatio. Issues for sure.

Thank you for the added info. I appreciate it. I was pretty sure I forgot something. When I hunt in the ADK on the private club they have strick rules about what gets taken. They own. 10,000 acers. No doe any season, bucks have to be over 3 years old, basically horns outside of ears, rack at lease a 6 or higher. If you not familiar with how big they get up there, you're looking at about 200lbs dressed out.

A friend of mine hunts up there and i helped butcher one of the bucks he got up there. That thing was bulky for sure. Even after hanging for a week. Nice bucks up there if you can find them...

Loaded up on 3G, 3N and 3S for me and my sons. For 3S, I can continue to get additional permits as I report each kill.
