No love for us SitDrag guys?

The price of a sit drag and a bridge and modifications and maybe two sit drags sewn together and a rock climbing harness and a buckle or waist belt buckle on the sitdrag and the cost gets close to a mantis... Is the sit drag more comfortable. Obviously we are all different... some say yes and some say no.
Is a commercial saddle safer... likely.

If I was a new saddle hunter I would get a mantis or kite.

No love for the sit drag here... But if you love it great.

So I'm clearly missing something here, seeing as how know one agrees with me, but why would it be any different than the guys selling the sit drag already? Sell it with the same straps and tether the SitDrag already comes with, and market it is as the same product with the ability to wear it around you waist, vs. packing it in, with the ability to attach MOLLE pouches to your gear. Then it would be exactly the same as selling the current SitDrag, liability would be on the user if they decide to hang 20' up with it. (just like it is now)

It would be definitely easy to do, I was just saying it shouldn't have linesman loops on it. Looks like you've got a business opportunity on your hands, or convince the SitnDrag guy to do it.

In my opinion it's the addition of the linemans loops that changes it. Linesmans loops means it was designed to climb with. Don't add the linesmans loops and maybe you could do it. Just have Red delete this thread, you don't want this out there when you're trying to argue in court it was never intended to be used at height.

So maybe I should have used different wording. When I say linemans loops, I'm talking about the exact same loops that are on each side of the SitDrag now, that most likely a majority of the SitDrag guys are currently using for their linemans belts.

Got ya. I thought you meant dedicated lineman's loops. The other issue is it will be hard to make all of the modifications that a bunch of saddlehunters are doing then sell the product and claim you had no idea it would be used by saddlehunters at height. Liability is a tricky game.

I see your point with the cheap modded sit/drag. I guess if you had one produced completely in China you could get one down that cheap. That being said every decent(non walmart) stand I ever purchased was at least $150. The good stands I own(Millenium, Summit) were all over $200 which is more than the mantis. I personally think the Mantis is a bargain. I don't use a mantis, I have my own modded sit/drag that is super comfortable so I don't have a need for the mantis. That being said my sit/drag may not be tested by an independent company but I am sure it will hold as much weight as a mantis as I use the same thread, webbing and stitching. There is no magic in sewing. There are no steel cables on the inside of the mantis. It's just sewn materials. The difference is they have professionals sew it and they spent the money to have it tested and their company insured. I will add that it took me at least a full day of careful cutting and sewing to produce my modded sit/drag and with that much time involved they have to charge at least $200 for something like the mantis to make a profit. I just enjoy the DIY stuff.

This is where words matter, if you've built your entire saddle out of climbing grade webbing and sewn it correctly you shouldn't call it a modded sitdrag. This can confuse the new guys into thinking that its ok to sew on a belt to the sitdrag and go climbing. I think you're just at a DIY saddle at that point.

I don’t think anyone in their right mind would take the risk of getting sued for such little reward. In the big scheme of things there would be almost zero market for that. Very little money to be made there in my opinion.

This was when I had initially put the saddle together. I have hunted out of it several times this year and it is by far the most comfortable saddle I have hunted in to date. I always had hip pinch issues with the sit drag that I never could get resolved. Back support was always a battle I was fighting as well.

Sure, I get your point. I guess I meant sit/drag style, not the sit/drag that you purchase online.

Good idea man! I actually own one of those hammock seats already that I turkey hunt from. Just a thought, but what do you think about adding a piece of 2 inch foam and sewing it into the seat portion with some fleece or some other material over it so It isn't so "tight" on the rear end? I did that with my homemade sit/drag style saddle and it helped tremendously. I might try one of these also.....just cause I like to tinker.

What harness? I run only a sit drag.

i know it freaks guys out but I've never used a harness w/ my sit drag either. I had a kick out with my aider this year at about 10' and my linemans belt caught me , and the belt w/ cobra buckle sewed into the SitDrag kept me from falling out of it. All comes down to your perceived level of risk.

That's all well and good, but you can't expect anyone to commercialize it.

Believe it or not I don't experience any discomfort of feeling too tight on my rear. I know it looks tight in the vid for sure! :) I am on the lookout for a large piece of fleece to make another one as the hammock material can be a bit cool when the temps drop.

Condor's riggers belt is rated for 7000lbs for the belt & 2000lbs for the buckle. You could probably come up with a way to use it in conjunction with the sit drag. I wear one at work & have personally rappelled with it from a rappel tower, along with several other team members, at trainings without issue. I've used it with a tether to hang tree stands & sometimes wear it with a tether instead of a full body harness when hunting from a stand.

Now, will it stop you if you fall? Yes. Will it hurt like hell? probably. Will you be able to get back up on your sticks/platform/stand after falling? if your in decent shape & don't get hurt you should be able to. If you can't get back up because your're in bad shape, get hurt on the fall, etc., will it suck hanging there by just a belt? Yes & it could kill you.

Anytime you leave the ground there are risk. It doesn't matter if you're using manufactured equipment or DIY stuff. IMO a lot of DIY stuff is actually better than manufactured. I mean who's to say that you can't sew better than the guy in the factory? It all boils down to common sense & the risk level your willing to take with your life.

Anyway here's the belt:

What other saddles have you used to compare this to? How about noise? I like the idea. I’ve always thought those ENO hammocks had some application in hunting.
