No Shame Coffee Thread

Last night It took about 15 pucks, going through all the different settings, and trying different tamping techniques to finally figure out we just needed to adjust the internal teeth of the grinder to get finer ground. We weren’t getting the proper pressure. After that we dialed back the amount of ground and got a perfect push. It was very frustrating at first but I think we have it pretty well dialed in now. I like coffee so I drink coffee, not additives. My ritual is roasting my own beans to different levels and mixing bean varieties. Right now I’m on a 50/50 Mexican Macabe HG Chiapas and Costa Rican La Magnolia Tres Rios that I can safely tell you will be a staple going forward.

In fact I’m drinking it right now while my wife is getting a massage….

ETA: wife isn’t a coffee person so mostly I just use a jetboil with a press. Makes a damn fine cup of coffee.

I tried to get into tea, but couldn't do it. I'm back to coffee. I'm boujee about a lot of things (my camo, my climbing sticks, etc) but coffee isn't one. I drink McDonalds or Speedway coffee if going out and whatever kcup is cheapest at Costco if making it at home.

I’ve looked & drooled for a year or 2 but haven’t internally justified enough bc I don’t use cream so it would be a dang expensive espresso maker… but ill wait for the results in the shame thread.

I think if you wanted only liked espresso or americano they make machines that only do that. At that point though it does seem more on the pointless side.

I don’t typically drink creamer with my coffee either but I place Cafe con leche, latte, and/or cappuccino in a different category of coffee. I don’t want them every day but they are nice to have. This is essentially the Mrs. Birthday/Christmas present which I will also occasionally enjoy.

As someone mentioned the espresso has less caffeine so I’m looking forward to dialing back my caffeine intake some too.

I use lactose free whole milk

I’m the only one who requires coffee & my daughter & daughter in law will partake when around. So I might make the case one of these days……

Most days I grind up a light roast from Happy Mug in my Lido 3 and brew it in my v60. My water is pretty hard so I brew with distilled water with precise amounts of baking soda and epsom salt mixed in, otherwise it doesn’t taste as good and my kettle gets all calcified.

I’m not above a gas station coffee though, and often do that during hunting season so I don’t wake my family up with the grinder. Once in a while I’ll mix in some hot cocoa powder as a lil treat.

My 16 oz Zojirushi thermos is awesome, compact, holds heat well, good lid for drinking. It’s a flip lid that locks, so I don’t have to worry about spills or squeaky screw lids. I plan to get the EWO fleece thermos pouch to really make it quiet.

I also have an old Rancilio Silvia that needs fixing. Froze in the garage during a move and stripped boiler threads so I should just need to retap the holes and put it back together.
