I’ve been several times ..Pre 2020 it was great on public since then it’s been a mess any walk in land will have 2-3+ trucks on from about Halloween through rifle season and most of these are small pieces with a little timber..private land can be some really good hunting though. Odds of getting a tag with no points is about 50-60% these days. There is 2 other states with OTC tags that I would hunt over public in Kansas. I hunt with a buddy on private out there these days though.

He can't remember :disrelieved:

haha Nebraska and Western Kentucky..Kansas was the best whitetail public I had ever hunted prior to 2020. I dunno what happened after Covid but the number of hunters on public went through the roof since then. I’ve been hunting Kansas since 2012 we’d see 3-4 other dudes on public during those first 8 hunts ..now you can’t sit a 100 acre piece of creek bottom walk in without haven’t 3 other guys I it with you. That’s what drove me to getting in the lease with my buddy.

Kansas… I went there once… I remember learning what goatheads were crawling under a fence. I also remember asking my buddy if we had the wrong weapons (bow hunt) as we watched a booner run across a wide open field with not a tree or stitch of cover in site for about a mile, that was fun, the wind never stopped blowing, rattling really worked, staring at oil well thingamabobs going up and down all day from a tree make me sleepy, I also remember the locals thinking it was funny all of us Easterners would drive out there just to hunt whitetails, farmers complaining of running over 150” sheds and getting flat tires, that is what I remember about Kansas, and also the giant buck that I can’t even begin to guess what he mite have scored, 170… 180… 190… I have no idea, but he busted me at 20 yards in the tree and stared at me with one tiny bush blocking my shot and then proceeded to walk straight away with said bush in the way the entire time, I shouldn’t have even typed this out the nightmares will start back up again :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy:, that was Kansas 15-20 years ago and I haven’t been back since, we hunted diy on public and ”walk in land”.

If you went now you would be saddened. The best deer hunting on the planet....ruined.
