Novix mini VS Helium

never tried a single step so don't know. Why would I need a double step?

Double steps are easier for newbies to adjust to and have a lower risk of error than single steps (e.g., stepping down with your right foot expecting to find a step, but that single step you expected to be there is on the other side), but they’re heavier. I prefer double steps for that reason, and also because you can put higher-up steps behind your knee while standing on the step below for an added bit of balance/stability when working with your hands. It’s not necessary if you’re wearing a lineman’s belt, but can nevertheless be helpful. Basically, if you value weight savings over comfort/stability, go with a single step; if you value comfort/stability over weight savings, go with a double step. It’s purely personal preference.

I'd go with Novix simply because I do not care for Hawk products in general. Multiple people have had quality issues with their mini sticks. I had issues when I bought their updated sticks last year. I just ordered the Novix mini sticks last night. I can't speak on their quality but they should be on par with Lone Wolf since they are sister companies. Also they are American made. You can add some aiders and get plenty high while carrying less weight and having a smaller profile. They are also almost a pound lighter each and cheaper right now.

I have both. The novix are nice. It isRespectable that they are spot on their claimed weight. 4 novix without straps come to about 5.9 lbs. 4 hawk heliums are just under 9. Hawk heliums claim they are 1.8lbs. They are not. They're 2.2lbs

I will likely be using my Heliums this season because I would rather have the additional near 3 lbs and have the double steps. I use a 2 step aider on each stick, and when you only have 1 step sticks it's annoying having to mix and match what foot goes in what hole in a certain order.

If you're the kind of guy that cries about 3 extra lbs, go Novix. If you'd rather carry 3 extra lbs for the ease of tree climbing. Go helium.

/thread.

Can the novix step be flipped from side to side or are they fixed position. Or are they just strait up and then down only in one direction. Hope I'm confusing someone. If I climb starting with the wrong foot can the step be just flapped over to make it a right hand step or a left hand step?

Yes, you can flip them.

I see they have a place for a discount code on there wed site. Has anybody tried one or had one?

I think helium gets a slight nod for safety too. We all know the most basic climb has a way of becoming interesting and that’s when double steps are worth their weight in gold.

it’s pitch black and...,
you drop something
You get attacked by hornets
You misjudged how to get around that branch
You spot a buck and need to be perfectly still

That’s just my personal experience from my last few hunts haha!

Countless other moments we find ourselves in where it’s nice to be standing on both feet.
