All right, all right, all right!!
It's hammer time in Alabammer! First chance to actually do some damage on the deer herd. Bucks only, which is weak sauce, but it do be that way.
Here's the rundown.
Temp: 62*
Wind: Squirrelly
Conditions: clear and mild
Location: saddle on ridge that runs between creek and river swamp. Thick cover, and acorns dropping.
Strategy: I came in from the south by compass and memory. Most guys come from the east, through open hardwoods. It's a scenic place with a lot of deer sign that gets made at night. As the horde descends from the parking lot, the fauna moves across the creek to the ridge.
Coming from the south with hip boots through tupelo swamp means that hopefully as we type there are deer still feeding and meandering home. They bed on this ridge is the plan. There's always multiple rub lines, and I've jumped 3 bucks in past years along this roughly 300 yard section of slope.
I got in and up relatively quietly. First time ever sitting here. I have killed before though about 200 yards north and south.
I've also tally-whacked pigs here before. Not against that. Pigs are worth 20 points, right?
If this doesn't work, there's a front that should be peaking Sunday, and I'm off until Tuesday.
