OG Lone Wolf sticks to Poor Man Beast’s

One sticking just isn’t for me, but still wanted to reduce weight. Decided to rebuild my circa 2010 LW sticks. I’m a pretty big fella (6’4”, #260), so safety is a legit concern.

Main goals: weight reduction, double steps, inline stacking, 22” step to step. To me, the weight reduction holes weren’t worth the effort being that my sticks were already Stealth Strip’ed.

Went with EWO steps, but Beast steps would work better to get inline stack, as some of the bolt ends do make contact. Probably will Stealth Strip the aiders to get them a little quieter against the exposed metal, but it’s do-able if you’re being careful.

Word of advice…use a drill press. Keep all the holes centered on the stick. I have 2 steps that holes ended up being slightly offset (1/8”) but enough that I drilled a very slightly bigger hole on the step side of the stick to ensure the EWO step grooves fit correctly around the sticks shaft. I’d also probably keep staggered stacking if I could redo it, but it’s not at all a deal breaker (see Beast step comment above).

Overall, I’m SUPER happy with this whole build though! This is 2x of a total 4x sticks.

Also, switched all attachments to USA Amsteel from Free Hang. Just received them all today, and haven’t had a chance to get them in just yet. It looks awesome though!

Nice job. You're right about the weight-reduction holes, I had to learn first-hand that the few ounces you lose is not worth the hours spent marking, drilling, and chamfering all those holes.

I found the lone wolf single step to be the best. Height to weight ratio you can get with diy sticks

I agree, but I like the safety aspect of double steps, especially climbing down in the dark.

Looks good! I was about 1 stick into my weight reduction holes when I regretted that decision!

Haven’t weighed them, but I’d ballpark close to a full pound. They’re much more manageable at this length.

Did you modify your full-length LoneWolf sticks? Did you add aiders to them?
I ask because climbing with my full length sticks and it is still the most cumbersome part of my saddle hunting climb. I use 4 sticks and trying to attach them to my saddle and climb probably resembles a 3 stooges skit. Anyway I thought about cutting them down and adding aiders but wasn't real sure about the safest way to attach aiders to a single step.

I cut mine down to 2 steps no aiders. As long as u have a drill press it’s fairly easy. What nice about the two steps is it’s to your step
Length and I have yet to find a lighter tube stick.

I spent the time and drilled out API sticks. It was a whopping 2oz of weight savings.

I was considering trying to create the in-line stacking just to give me something to do over the winter. I have a few other higher end sticks I primarily use so I will probably forgo this idea and try to do something else this off-season.
