After reading of some issues with the LWHC with bolt mod (I have and XOP) I started looking at alternative climbing methods. I don't have any sticks to try one sticking but I do have some Wild Edge Steps so I went out to my practice tree and gave it a try. Used the knaider swaider with one step and got up the tree just as well if not faster than with the LWHC. I just ordered a WE Perch and will probably carry a second Step for additional mobility at hunting height. 2 steps and a Perch weigh in at 2.9# Anyone else tried this?

Only issue I see is being able to get the proper leverage to set the stepp tight without a proper base for your feet. If gravity doesn’t get you off kilter and it’s not a funky tree and you’re good at setting stepps, it could work ok. Report back after some reps!

Could you tell me what LWHC stands for (Lone Wolf...)? What exactly is the bolt mod? Thanks!

Ok thanks. I have seen this method, I just didn't know it had an acronym. The bolt mod is to beef the seat up to hold the full weight while climbing. Gotcha.

I wouldn’t want to one step but primal steps with the strap may be a little easier going that route.

I use my body weight to cam the step over. More leverage than if I am standing.

Tangent: I hate having unfamiliar acronyms thrown at me, but it's like a curse you can't avoid anymore. Don't think our parents ever had this problem...

The bolt mod is done to increase the angle for the belt vs the platform. It helps tremendously in climbing but add zero structural integrity. The current debate is whether it is a contributing factor in a few recent failures. IMO it is not and the benefit to climbing outweighs the risk being so far I have only seen 2 failures with however many are in use and have been in use for years.

Buy one muddy pro stick and a five step aider and stop looking in my opinion. This is what I do and I find it as easy as using a climbing tree stand.
