One Stick- Best Hookup Option

Looking for recommendation for the best one stick hookup option.

I currently have 17” Shikar stick setup with a scout on the top with a 1/8” daisy chain. I’m have a difficult time once I sit down in my saddle and come off the stick to pull up, reattach the stick and set the stick. The daisy chain loops never end up right on the button which creates a loose daisy chain and when trying to set the stick the daisy chain is at a steep angle and the stick slides down or the daisy chain flops down and I can’t set the stick right. I’ve tried putting wraps in the daisy chain to get it tighter which I’m still having issues with getting the stick set. I got to play around with it a good while as I’m suspended and it’s not the most comfortable thing to do while hanging there for 5 mins. There’s gotta be a better solution.

The 2 options I’m looking at are:

Carry a second Shikar 17” stick so I can be standing on the stick making it more comfortable to spend the extra 5 mins messing with getting the 2nd stick correctly set. Then I feel I can step up on it safely and pull my 1st stick up and repeat the process. Which is defeating the one step process.

or

See if someone has a better solution. I’m thinking it might be better to modify my current Shikar stick with say a Harken 150 cam cleat mounted just below the button to make it easier to get positioned and set. Has anybody setup a Shikar stick with a cam cleat for one sticking and can tell me how it worked out. Also what type of rope or amsteel to use in conjunction with the Harken 150 cam cleat.

This has been discussed on here a lot. Please use the search and you should be able to find all the opinions you want.
Thank Drew for the advice, But I have used the search and haven't been able to find a solution hence the post!

In all my sticks from Api LW hawk and muddy I set a cam cleat just below the button as I keep my button for various things but mainly as a second anchor point for when I am at my final destination I hook a amsteel daisy chain or rope mod or a strap. I like that and in my new shikar I’m going to do the same with either a mini or a harken 150 and use amsteel rope I find when one sticking the cleats are what makes it easy to maneuver easily. I have done all the methods of attaching but the cleat is gold!

For one sticking I like one Muddy Pro stealth stripped up. The cam cleat and rope that comes standard on them are excellent for one sticking.

Thank You for the information!

Question: If I install the Harken 150 on my Shikar just below the button, I assuming I just use the button for my connect point for my rope / amsteel and the run it around the tree and through the cam cleat? I don't need to drill though the side of the stick and run the rope / amsteel though? Also what rope would you recommend or amsteel? What length do I need?

Yes I would use that as a connection or girth hitch it tightly underneath the button or the cleat that’s your choice. If using a micro cleat use 1/8” amsteel double up and if a 150 then 3/16” amsteel doubled up and length is totally up to you depending what size tree you plan to use. I like no more that a 2 1/2 ft diameter thick tree to use as I cant get my heavily muscled TRex arms around it comfortably LOL. Personally I use 6ft of amsteel doubled up with a locked Brummell loop then after I fed one piece thru I lock it down with a knot that I feed upon itself couple times then thread a 6” loop bungee threw it at the end. I also at my final destination loop the extra amsteel around tree then by give off then add my secondary connection that way for my piece of mind I never worry about something breaking plus on one of my sticks I have the scout attatched to it so it’s sturdy as hell then I throw 2 ROS above platform about 1”

Thank You again for the information!

I'm assuming that the Hasken 150 will fit on my Shikar stick under the button and to install I would just require drilling a couple holes and get some harden bolts (grade 8) with locknuts? As for the 3/16" amsteel double up with a locked Brummell loop, can you give me a recommendation on where I can buy a 6ft piece pre made?

Also can you tell me when using a cam cleat is there any noise when pulling the amsteel out of the cam cleat to pull up the stick and reposition? If so is there a trick to eliminate any noise?

There is noise. What i do is slowly pull it out and let the two moving parts hit my hand rather than each other.

I was going to say what i did. I got some longer than needed grade 8 bolts. i put some spacers in between the cleat and the stick post to give room for a Brummel lock underneath the cam cleat. my stick never had a button on it so this is what i came up with and works perfect.

It will fit but there will be some overhang which is nothing the noise factor I didn’t have but I think @Boynebowhunter has a fix and their are several fellas who can make the 3/16” full bury amsteel heck you can do it. Piece of cake I would give you one but I’m all out of 3/16” but DANO from EWO would have some and the amsteel guy who makes them and a few others. Can post on classifieds on who can get you one or use a 6mm cord from any outdoor supply company like REI etc....or DANO. He has them. I would also recommend his stand offs. I prefer them over the shikar stand offs they keep you off the tree little farther than the shikar which ain’t bad but I still like DANO better. Really grip the tree solid

DanO's Stand offs are the best!

Sounds like you need this.

To help with Daisy chain setting the stick..

I use Tapatalk and find that a search with Tapatalk gives pretty poor results. If I search through google I get much better results.

With that being said I use a Schaefer cam cleat on an Eastern Woods Outdoors stick for one sticking. The cam cleat is the best option in my opinion. It attaches quickly and releases easy as well. I’m using 1/8” amsteel blue with a full bury for my rope with cam cleat.

I have the Schaefer cam cleat and it made some noise. I took the bottom off and it was easy to see where it was metal to metal contact when the springs snapped back closed. I put a very small spot of hot glue in that spot to stop the metal to metal contact. It is much quieter now.

I have one sticked a lot. I have a set of original muddy pros. Their cam cleats are in a ziplock bag and have been for three years. I have found the easiest method for one sticking is to use a cam buckle strap.

fight me.

Did you have safety or durability issues with the Muddy's cam cleats? Mine seem to work fine and super quick but LMK something I may not!!!
