I've recently put together my version of an ultimate one stick using a modified Muddy Pro stick shortened to 17" between steps, lightened a bit by drilling ala Beast sticks, and adding an Ultimate Platform and Ultimaider. I've noticed on many youtube videos that guys are using extremely short sticks in the range of 12 to 13 inches. Is there some advantage to such short sticks that I'm not seeing or is it just to save a few ounces?

If that's all it is, my stick works fine on my pack. I don't think shortening it would make much difference. The platform is really the bulkiest part anyway. Shortening the stick really won't help that. Thanks for the response though!
Get some EWO standoffs for your Muddy stick!
Already did that. I just forgot to mention it in my first post. They do make a huge difference!
I actually went from 12” EWO to 18” last year and my shins loved me for it. I say that because the loss of pack space was a great trade off for me.
