One sticking

Thanks guys! I ordered a cam cleat and the one stick rope and I’ll just use my current Stick with a r.o.s for now!

Advice, be sure to check the measurement of the bolt, some that come with the cam cleats are too short! Doublesteps noted this and they sell one long enough to install on 1 inch tube.

thanks for the heads up! I’m a mechanic though so I have a truck full of bolts lol

I’m running a cut down full size hawk helium. I added a cleat from EWO and added the hawk hsp platform. It’s pretty good for a cheap all in one stick. I tried a daisy chain first and it’s do-able, but the cam cleat is much better.

Hey using your current stick and a ring of steps will be just fine. I had a cheap set of climbing sticks from walmart that I just cut the middle step out of and welded it back together to create a 12 inch long two step stick. Then I used a 10 foot ratchet strap and cut it into 2 44 inch pieces I believe, measure down 18 inches from each end and tied knots leaving about 6 inches between the knots for my foot placement. Then I took the other piece and tied two knots on each end above the knots on the first piece creating a fisherman's knot to attach the two pieces together then tied two loops in the ends that attach it to my bottom step. This created a two step aider. After that I cut a 9 inch by 12 inch piece of 3/4 inch plywood to make a platform to attach to the top of my stick. as @MNFarmHunter has said, " Just be warned that once you realize it's easy it is to create a thing, you'll start seeing everything else you can modify and improve." @Tim0712 , if you want to see exactly what I talking about I can post a few pictures.

I use a beast mini stick with a squirrel step so can move around bigger diameter trees. This inables to move around the the tree for weak side shots and use the tree to block the deer view of me. it also puts less strain on the back. Whatever brand you buy get a mini stick you don't need a full size climbing stick. There are a lot of good one stick climbing method videos on YouTube.

For safety I carry 2 deer drag suspension relief strap in case I drop my climbing stick or (I girth hitch it to tree) if can't reach it. It's very important to get a good aider I strongly recommend the ultimaider it has adjustable steps as far as I know it's the only aider that does that.

You should put at least 10 hours of practicing in trees that are are small diameter big diameter and slanted. Don't just practice on easy trees not very realistic in my opinion.
I wouldn't go cheap on the ropes for the stick climbing method or in tree Saddle hunting in general to me that's crazy not worth the risk. It's OK to cut cost in Saddle hunting but get good ropes.

You can absolutely 1 stick with ANY sticks or attachment methods. Rappel rope and aider are the only thing that you really need to add to a stick, because no sane person would 1 stick DOWN and aider multiplies the distance you go up per movements. Some people argues that cam cleat is essential but I disagreed. I use the regular straps that came with my XOP sticks and it work fine as long as you tune your method, the buckle-less method is great for the XOP sticks IMHO. For a budget stick, your XOP sticks would work fine, some improvements are recommended but its like budget bow and flagship bow, both will work as long as you know the expectation.

-Consider using buckle-less method until you are at hunting height.
-Dont try to reach too far each movement, that's where people are making the mistake, reach as far as you're comfortable.
-Try different style, some people place stick on the side, other directly center, do what you feel is best.
-You dont need a mechanical ascender/descender, they helps make life easier but a figure 8 or ATC works great.
I one stick down I don't rappel down at all you can do it. It does takes a little more time in the dark for sure. I want rappel down next year it looks like alot of fun.
