Oplux and Beal jammy (NO KONG DUCK) question

I spoke with one of the technical experts at Sterling today. They recommended 6mm TRC for friction hitches on the OpLux. I know that's been mentioned on the forum before, not sure about this specific thread. I already switched my tether and LB over to the OpLux, no plans of going back. I'd rather run an untended prusik on both if that was the only option (like the beal jammy) than go to a much larger rope or mechanical option. The bulk savings is impressive.

But at the moment it seems like there is no place to purchase by the foot. I think DanO is working on it, but not sure of date. I will likely forgo my Oplux until he gets some TRC.

I’ll make a call today, Sterling’s bigger retailers do custom orders. Found a place to order 50’ of OpLux with factory sewn eye yesterday. I’ll ask about the TRC.

Thursday, meaning I'll be cutting it up then :grinning:

Darnit! The lack of TRC was what I was using as a reason for not ordering a bunch of stuff. Now I've gotta find another excuse to keep me from spending a bunch of money on climbing gear.

It seems obvious that Sterling would recommend another sterling product to be the optimal prussik cord for the Oplux but it is also hard for me to believe that Oplux is so special that you shouldn't use Beal Jammy. Just remember...my claims are based on zero data. :)

If it's good enuff for Garrett, it's good enuff for me!!

Sterling isn’t going to recommend a competitors product, no one said there was anything wrong with the Beal Jammy. Might start getting into a grey area when you cut it down.

Now what? What's TRC? Better, lighter than oplux? Stop all this! Lol

Beal Jammy 5.5mm appears to work just fine, and is rated quite a bit higher (stronger) than Sterling TRC 6mm. Why does the bandwagon seem to want to jump, other than TRC might cost less (once it finally becomes available by the foot)? I will stay on the jammy wagon for now...

Not me, I put my Jammys away with all this chatter and switched to dental floss. Must easier to find and NO ONE will argue about its use :) For any newbies reading, jk and if you choose to use it or paracord for anything climbing related, put me in your will first.
