My rappel line is my tether. I use a Safegaurd on it. You can us Beal Jammy ( I can personally say this one does work just fine), or the beal cordage (link below) that @DanO sells. Sterling 6mm TRC (@DanO sells also) may work as well but I have not tried it personally.

For my lineman's belt I use Sterling 6mm TRC for the line and then make a hitch out of 1/8" Amsteel. I create a locked brummel eye on each end and the burys come and meet in the middle from each end. I then take that piece of Amsteel with the eyes on each end and create a distel hitch on the 6mm TRC, works like a charm and really compact system as a whole. Not suggesting anyone do this, just stating what I use. I've done the math and know the risk, my choice.
