PA proposal to require harnesses on SGLs

Im actually one of those you call an idiot who doesn’t wear a fall resistant in a ladder stand. Only a ladder stand. Though everything else i wear a safety harness. But i am a saddle guy now
Lets try not to get into name calling on here keep it classy. I dont judge anyone on certain choices so noone else should either.

Just stating a fact there buddy. You have a family that depends on you and your not attached to a tree? So if you take offense look in the mirror and figure out why? Maybe it’s not me your mad at.

Good idea, but no way they could enforce it. I would hunt from my saddle still no doubt. I think if questioned a quick demonstration hanging upside down would be enough to prove you are safe :D
You're such a rebel!

For those in a climber or lock on this is a great recommendation, I am not sure I like it as a law. Kinda like the seat belt law. It should 100% be recommended and should be done but for law to tell me I have to is a bit silly to me.
Amen and Amen

As a FLAMING libertarian I encourage all PA members (or non-resident PA hunters) to contact whomever is pushing this nanny-state silliness and express opposition. I don't disagree with using harnesses to save lives, but this "proposal" can lead to abusive LEO behavior and prosecutorial misconduct. The basis of this country is FREEDOM, and we should actively discourage legislation that curtails such freedoms. Allow this to continue, and we get government mandates on ALL recreational activities like ice-fishing, rock-climbing, sledding, etc. etc. etc. FREEDOM is the basis of this country and we should obstruct all efforts to change that.

Lol nah. im stupid sometimes hes right
I just dont think name calling should have been issued here
Lol

Hard to understand why you brought Huck in to this?
Nobody called you stupid.
I’m letting this die here in the open forum but if you feel the need to PM me and we can discuss. I think Redsquirrel summed up my feelings. Saddlehunter.com ain’t about this.

I’m sure there are 1,000,000 non seatbelt wearers running all over Heaven and Hell screaming their favorite NWA song. While there families are screaming why didn’t the government intervene and make them wear a seatbelt saving there life.

I read regs where they require a TMA approved harness. They always try to put standards on everything. I’m not a standard person.

PA regs are under developed, over complicated to enforced and the answer I alway get is “depends on the game warden”. I hunt private land mostly so it doesn’t apply to me in PA.
I’d like for them to get hunting on Sunday legislated before this, but half the hunters disagree because “it’s always been that way”

It would really be nice to have Sunday. It would really make it nicer to travel to camps or wherever to hunt the weekend instead of just one day. For a lot of people, including myself it’s almost impossible to get in the woods after work in November when you don’t get home from work till 5. So I would like to see it happen personally, but I can see a couple arguments. Being able to scout Sunday without worrying about bumping deer to others is the only thing I like about it. It’s probably nice for non-hunters who like to walk in the woods, especially for people who like to take their dogs out. Unfortunately I think so many hunters being against it is the reason it won’t pass. If you don’t wanna hunt on Sundays then don’t, don’t keep others from doing it. I just don’t get it.

I wish PA would legalize Sunday hunting, at least bow hunting like we did here in NJ. I started going to NY to hunt after I tag out in NJ but I would prefer to go to PA. From everything I have read, I don't see it happening, which is just mind blowing to me. The added revenue to the state alone should make it worth it.

It really is crazy aint it?! WV just legalized sunday hunting statewide last year, but only on private land. I didn't hunt many sundays but it was nice having the option. I have heard they are pushing for public land this year as well so maybe we will finally be caught up with every other "sane" state lol. It's such an outdated law!

It really is outdated. We've had it for I think 7 years now and it was a life changer. I can actually hunt all weekend if i want! I didn't mention though that you can only bowhunt on sundays on private land and WMA's. No county parks, state parks, state forests or federal lands. But it is better than nothing and it gives me more opportunities.

No hunting on Sunday is honestly the most outdated rule I have heard of. Like BenG said if you choose to not hunt on Sundays for religious reasons or family reasons that is your choice but it make it a no hunting day is silly in this day and age.

I strongly agree about Sunday hunting. It is ridiculous we don't have it and it is absurd that there are hunters against it. That is mostly about greed, guys not wanting "their" deer shot while they are in church or the wife won't let them out.

I certainly wouldn't hunt every Sunday, that's family day. But say it's raining sideways on Saturday and Sunday is post-frontal gorgeousness (happens all the time). Yeah you can bet your bacon I'd love to flip those days around.

Farmers have a strong lobby against it but there is a simple solution there, PA has awful trespass laws/penalties. Beef those up and farmers have no legitimate gripe.

The fearmongering hikers are against it too and we should be willing to give them state parks on Sundays.

It's going to change, just a matter of time, but it still might be 10 or 15 years away honestly which stinks.

Only sticking point I see, PGC has said if we get Sundays they will look to shorten the seasons. Say they lop off the last week of our already short bow season and some years we barely get to hunt the rut? Thoughts on that? I guess that's a win and a loss. Regardless with declining numbers archery season is bound to eventually run right through Thanksgiving so maybe that timeline won't coincide.

I have said the same thing, but just depends on who you end up "talking to". LOL!

Yeah that would be a big loss if they did it that way. It already ends early I don’t think they would do that. Like you said I think it will eventually go the other way and run through Thanksgiving. Plus when have they ever worried about too many deer being shot, lol?
