I really want a good to pack something that can handle packing out a quarter deer plus some gear. I’m 6’5” with a 42 inch waist. I currently have a Older browning pack that I bought cheap used and I have a north face terra 65 that I bought clearance very cheap years ago. I’ve packed deer out with both of these but neither of them fit me properly. Does anyone have any suggestions for something that would fit?

I’m 6’3 with 40 inch waist and really enjoyed all the options the J34 had. It allows you to adjust the torso length. I was nowhere near the max even at my size. This bag has a massive amount of room left even if you carry in sticks, platform, and camera gear. You also can purchase other packs that easily attach to it. Only reason I stopped using it is because I won’t be doing any packing of animals in and out.

I run a Kuiu Venture 1800 for deer hunting. It's a great layout for the way I hunt and like to carry my gear and will haul an avg boned out deer just fine. My western pack is a seek outside and I really like it but the x-pac material is a non starter for whitetail hunting. That and it is just too big of a pack for taking up a tree. I have a small kifaru bag and would not hesitate to order any gear from them. Exo makes a great pack as well.

I use a Mystery Ranch Pinter, strap my LW sticks to it, never know they are there. Worth a look, a little pricey but there are always deals going on especially now.

You have 1/2’ on me in height. That said, have you measured your torso length (c7 to iliac crest)?

Find what your measurements are and then you can find candidate packs.

Fit is different for individuals. You will,be best served with a pack that fits you. I find that the stone glacier xcurve fits me best. But it has 26” stays, map which are not good for me in thick eastern swamp. So I use a MR popup and deal with the discomfort. But at 6’5”, 26” stays may not adversely affect you and your hunting style.

Good luck. There are a lot of good packs out there, and the best one for you may not be the best one for someone else. Lastly, check out the rockslide forum. Tons of good info. on packs.
