Packing in gear and clothes during a hang an bang

I’m new to this also, but I always strapped my heavy layers to my pack or stand for the walk in. Usually works pretty well.

I wear my full bottom layers, pants are Kuiu with side zips to dump heat and work awesome. Up top I wear just a lightweight merino baselayer. I pack/strap top layers between my bag and my sticks. At the tree I unpack, usually swap to fresh socks, put on my midlayer/vest, hang sticks and get set. Once set I very carefully scan the area with binos and then add my outer layer. If I am tight into bedding I usually get fully dressed and prepped at the base of the tree behind some cover.

Yup, just pack your warm clothes in. I lived in NY for 57 years (these last 2 in KY). Because the prevailing wind is SW, I had to do a looong climb up the side of a valley to get up to the woods that I had permission to hunt. No joke, it was so strenuous, that it took 40 minutes to get up the hill side to any of my stands. Even if it was 15-20 degrees (normal late Nov, and Dec temps), I climbed in with just base-layer bottoms, my boots, gloves and shirtless. Terrifying to get out of the truck into the ice world, but after about 5 minutes into the climb I always felt great and was very happy I started that way.

Pretty much the same here except shirtless!!!LOL midweight I use my UA Aeton bibs and jacket, then heavier is my Cabela's Wooltimate pants and jacket followed by my IWOM if the wools aren't cutting it for me for a long sit

I wear very light boots and put a toe warmer on at the base of the tree so my feet normally don't sweat to bad. If its a all day sit then I have my boot blankets also and a spare change of toe warmers but not sure this year on that because I've never taken a boot off in the saddle

Fulton NY!! For sure you know the terror of the NY late bow season ice, snow and ferocious wind. But oh, so beautiful...

Aren't you letting out a lot of scent this way? John Eberhart wears full scentlock.

Well, when I'd get about 100-200 yards from whatever stand, I would stop, cool down to a pre-shiver, and then put on my warm clothes. I'm not much of a scent-prevention gear guy. These days I just do my best with the wind. Sure I get busted sometimes, the wind swirls so much... but I almost always fill all my tags with just the bow. Shot a few P&Ys, not many. I guess I'm just to content to enjoy the hunt. Love being out there.

I definitely agree and pack in my upper layers . I also stop more frequently when I get closer to my setup spot. I carry field wipes , wipe down everything exposed and put those in a plastic bag inside my Sentlok Rogue .

Anyone change out their socks when they get to the tree?

In the past I have almost always hunted in a climber & I would change to dry socks and just hunt in them & leave my boots hanging in the tree

That’s 1 thing I wish I could easily do with saddle hunting from a platform

It doesn’t feel very good

It’s almost always hot in FL & it’s nice to get out of sweaty boots

'And I really like the Muddys too. Mine have held up fine. Mostly use the lone wolf method though...
