Packing sticks for saddle hunting.

So i have tried a couple different options and this is what i believe i have settles on. Not crazy about using a pack, never been much for carrying one. But it serves its purpose for this new style of mobile hinting for me. This is the Element pack by InSight.

I will wear my saddle and dump pouch with tether and linemans rope. Other than that the pack with my sticks and predator platform comes in at 12.5lb. My only system (assault 2 with molle straps and belt and sticks) came in around 22-22.5lb i believe.

Tried a trial run with it last night. Only second time doing this. From base of tree with all gear packed and on my back it took me 7m55s to be tethered in. Then from tethered in to the ground and packed up as pictured it was 5m21s. I think somewhere around 7m flat and 5m flat will be where i end up without rushing once i do it several more times and refine my process.

Yup I used 3 sticks and a long aider too last year. I hate the noise from sticks, I hate carrying sticks, I hate carrying them up the tree. But I do like climbing on them. One stick will be practiced this year - less noise, and less to pack up.

@Bogle @Ontariofarmer do you guys have any issues using the aider with big boots? Is there enough of a stand off from the tree to find the aider and safely get your boot in? I want to use a 3 or 5 step aider to start at the bottom then my sticks the rest of the way. Thanks

Not to rain on anyone’s parade but be extremely careful packing your sticks that way. You ever slip and fall on a steep bank those beast sticks will do some damage to the back of the neck and head. Just looking out for a fellow hunter.

Put this together this evening. Im used to carrying my 4 sticks on a LW assault 2. So this frame does not seem terribly bulky to me. I will probably still give some kind of pack a try.

I have thought of doing the same thing.

Hey what back pack is that. That’s exactly what I’m looking for!

Thanks Bro!

I actually carry my sticks slung over my shoulder. I use 2 camping chords from walmart (plastic clip)..then attach the sling cable (this is a lone wolf strap from a sit and climb stand... the part that keeps the two halfs of the stand from seperation). This allows me to go directly from ground to tree climb. I also keep the lonewolf straps attached to sticks. Just innertube the buckle to keep it quiet. Will post pics when i get home.

Really liked the Insight pack. Wanted to try Sitka's new Fanatic pack. This works just about as well and is much more quiet.

I think the Insight pack is a great option, especially at half the price. I think i will use the Fanatic pack though.

if you just want to carry sticks these work great and are very adjustable and multi purpose. I've carried everything with them, my bow, stands, sticks, my boots while wading etc. with them. They also make a simple webbing version that i prefer over the one in the vid.

Hey Tater - How you liking the Fanatic Pack? You packing a platform in there too?

Seems like it will do fine, only had it a few days. Yes, predator platform and knee pads in there. Plenty of room for clothing and anything else i may need.

I did rope mods on my helium’s and am using one of the stock straps as a shoulder sling to carry the sticks in. I haven’t shortened the sticks yet and they are too bulky strapped to a pack IMO. I need to get a few hunts under my belt this fall with this approach before I will endorse this sling method though.
