Painting my saddle.

The camo vs solids debate is a rather stupid one on the whole. Predators and prey have been trying to blend into their surroundings since...well...for a long time. Something of that I'm sure relates to hunting. But, both solids and camo can stand out like a sore thumb too, in the wrong environment.

Given the choice between a camo I like or a solid, in a singular product, I'll stick with the camo for hunting...and skiing, lol.

I will agree to disagree on camo versus not camo. A solid color may not mean much to the flat lander's but come to wv where you climb 30 ft in a tree and 10 yards from you is eye level with the deer. Steep mountains make it alittle harder to stay hidden. I've hunted illinois and ohio and it's a little simpler to climb 15 and stay hid. Here's alittle different. If a deer comes on the up hill side of you then anything to help you stay hid will help. Heck even breathing sometimes give you away it seems.

I've been had from deer seeing moisture clouds of breath on cold days.

OP, I think you'll be OK with the black Cruzr. Think about it. Your behind the tree for starters. 2nd the the black is facing away from the deer. However with that said, my saddle is camo. Mossy Oak. Truthfully It probably more for me than the deer! LOL

i quit smoking and used an e-cig for a year

i thought the e-cig could be used in a stand (i never smoked in a stand due to the smell and i just didn't want to...heck i thought the apple flavored vape might even make a deer curious), i had one that blew out big puffs

i saw very few deer that year, and i think several deer alerted to the puff of vapor and ran off

i stopped that and my deer sightings went up by double

on the ground, a leafy or ghillie suit and painted face makes a noticeable difference

that's a form of camo, just really good 3d camo.....like wearing a hunting blind

so camo does matter, but maybe less in a tree and maybe the flat 2d camo fabric just doesn't break up your outline enough (having the hood up and leaves around your head and shoulders really seems to help)

i buy hunting clothes that have good qualities that are on sale, so i've never bought any asat or predator (never seen a jacket in those patterns on sale 50 percent off after season)....but if it was available in the stuff i usually buy, then it would be all i'd wear

i buy most of my outerwear from midwayusa (awesome for the price) and just pick realtree or whatever is available for the items on sale....those fine print, photorealistic camos aren't so great....just look like a blob....i wish they came in predator or asat

i own a leafy suit and have painted my face, and i'll do it again on the ground....but in a tree i just don't want the hassle, even though i bet it could help out

I will say MOST deer come in time for me to hide behind tree but how many times have you been snuck up on? I know from my experiences hunting hardly ever goes the way I plan it. You just have to make it work.

I would say that most likely it's the lack of movement instead of camo that allows you to stay undetected when they sneak up on you. My mentor wore standard issue army fatigues. In all conditions. He looked like a dark blob. However, He sat like a statue for hours. He was a real killer. The exception to that is snow camo. In snowy conditions or skylit situations, snow camo definitely conceals you.

It's hard not to be sky lit in mountains unless you are deep in a hollow. You either going up or down here no flat. That's what I was saying in different areas it's different.

Roadhunters make fun of me for getting out of the truck and getting wet.let alone what I wear.my gear, climbing trees .deer aint in the trees,my wife's friend tells me.just shoot one

I get it but painting your saddle ain't the answer. The benifits of having a camo'd saddle are very minimal. If your worried about being skylit then get a snow camo saddle and wear snow camo. Movement is why deer pick you. Most likely Movement is why you see them as well. In normal, conditions if a deer stands still in the brush it can "disappear". If your still, the same is true. As soon as he moves, then you see him. In snowy conditions, they stand out like a sore thumb and even then they can sometimes "disappear". Dan Infalt wear dark flannels all the time. No camo and at 6' off the ground. He's obviously a killer. The key is don't move.
