People are nuts

What is it that every redneck says just before going to the emergency room? "Hold my beer and watch this"......

Kidding aside. Myself being someone new to saddle hunting but not new to hunting by various other methods, I can add that some silly mistakes or risks that I admit I may have taken are fueled by impatience. The desire to get to "expert or cool status" overnight can cloud even a typically responsible individual to rush into things or take too my shortcuts without fully realizing or understanding the risk. I.e. advanced climbing methods without sufficent practice, using pieces of gear without fully understanding how it works, or blindly modifying equipment. I'm constantly having to tell myself to think, slow down, and ask the dumb questions so as not to make the dumb mistakes.

I would agree this is likely a big factor. The best thing I did when I stumbled upon saddle hunting was decide to learn about it for the next year. The amount of reading I did in that year....

This is how I feel every time I have these conversations.

‘Well I ain’t never seen no plants growing out of no toilet!’

I do not even own a saddle yet but have been reading about them for a couple of months. I have done some things in life without regard to safety, lived to tell the story. So this isn’t a holier than thou spill.
It has amazed me what people are sewing and tying together for saddles and such. Is there any industry testing standards for manufacturers?
I’m hoping everyone here will self police a safety concern if brought to light and others willing to heed advice given from professionals.
Now back to researching saddles

What I don't get is a saddle isn't that expensive. Even if you added the minimum gear to go your at $4-600. Sounds like a lot, but one trip to the emergency room will cost more.
