Dog tick and lone star here. I can agree with the actively seeks out host part.

Here is just a suggestion i use
View attachment 67108My good friend which is also a member on here @Jhand told me of a product you can get at tractor supply or amazon
Here it is and its concentrate so measure , mix, spray , or dip. Whatever is easier.
i think i paid 8$.
alot cheaper than sawyers.
it also supposed to last alot longer than a few weeks. I fid all my stuff in this last week.
there is a but of a smell but definitely not as strong as saywers.
It really works really good and is 99% animal safe.
the only animals it bothers is cats it does somthing to their neurologic System and can kill them.
I do this maybe twice and i do also spray-down with off before going into and wooded or tall grassy areas.
I swear by this stuff. I used to use sawyers but when I went to the concentrate style I have been able to treat more for cheaper. I have had the same bottle for 4years now.

ticks are probably the only animal that i would make extinct if i could

i'm nearly certain the ecosystem would work around the void they leave

all they might do is move the energy/nutrients from blood up the food chain to birds and other animals that eat ticks....birds will just eat more of the other things in their diet

You might not want to trust permethrin for all types of ticks. I am a big proponent of permerthrin, sawyers, gamehide clothes for ticks. Relatively recently I tried an experiment on a dog tick. Not happy with the results. Read about it in the link below. Also, read the article about dog ticks becoming resistant to permethrin.

I love the Sawyers permethrin. Spray all your clothes and gear down and forget about ticks for a few weeks. (You can go longer, but by that time clothes need washing and I re-treat after washings.) I know this past Spring Gobbler when me and my brother were hunting he had issues with ticks and I did not. He wasn't using any tick deterrent.

10% permethrin, 1oz of permethrin to 19oz of water in a spray bottle. Spray your clothes down till they’re damp and let air dry. I’ll usually do this every few washes, or every couple weeks if they aren’t getting washed. Works like a charm.
