Personal Carry Solutions

I have been using a holster from Rutholsters that attached to the molle on the bottom of my bino harness. Just recently upgraded to their newest offering which basically attaches the holster to a wide flat sheet of kydex that slides down very tightly in the back sleeve pocket of my bino harness. I love it, the gun is tucked discretely behind my bino harness with the grip exposed enough to draw easily.

Looking at the pictures it appears to be about perfect for saddle hunting since it would keep it out of the way but be instantly accessible. I do carry a medium backpack for climbing or the Waldrop Packseat for the ground. I'm assuming that if the holster was snugged down tight it would not interfere.

If you’re referring to the rutholsters option, it now feels no different than just wearing the bino harness. With the original option hanging from the bottom molle the gun was sometimes low enough to clank off my saddle buckle.

I was talking about the Kenai chest holster. I'm hoping to avoid anything as big as a bino harness. I want whatever I get to ride close to me and be out of the way. I basically want to forget I have it on.

My badlands super day pack has the holsters built right into the hip belt of the pack. One on each side.

I have the Badlands Tree Stand but I do want to upgrade this might be a good option, thanks!

I’ve been using a hill people gear snubby kit bag for years and it works great. The snubby is the smallest in the lineup.

My Glock 30s would fit nicely!!

I understand. Personally, I rarely carry binos hunting because it is usually pretty thick where I am hunting, and I just never seem to need them. I'm bow hunting so I don't need binos to check out a deer at 200 yards in lieu of scoping it.

I have been encountering hogs down south lately though and this has me thinking that a 10mm on a chest rig would be pretty comforting on the mile walk out in pitch dark. This would be a full sized 10mm.

Anyone who has the Kenai, have you experienced any problems shooting a bow while wearing the chest rig?

We have hogs too and I have ran into them I also carry for …you know …I get the binos in thick growth

Exactly because in a tree

Hogs make me a little nervous on the ground. The other evening, I was sitting on the ground and about 15 minutes before dark I had a big boar squealing and grunting angrily at something not 100 yards away. Probably another boar. I was wishing for that 10mm at that point. He was heading away from me, but it really was a little unnerving.

Just shuffle your feet quickly towards them while huffing and popping your teeth. They will think you are a big bear and charge in so you can get a clean shot.

Razco under a chest rig/bino harness, or if I'm carrying a pack it's a molle attached holster on the strong side of my waist belt. It's no good if you can't get to it, same with a knife...

Also check out the Lehigh Defense Xtreme Penetrator bullets/loadings...

I use an alien gear backpack strap holster or a one tigris velcro holster depending on which gun/backpack I'm taking. specifically because of the thumb release option on both.

I strongly recommend using a holster that has something more than tension retention. You don't want to be in a position where your carry falls out because you are traversing tree falls etc while managing the rest of your gear and you don't notice. Happened to me. Yes I found it after a search, but it ruined my hunt and nearly gave me a heart attack thinking of the implications if I couldn't find it, especially since I was on public land.

Well, I have a Kenai on the way...we'll see how it works. That big iron wasn't doing me any good unless I can tote it.

I've been searching for a solution as well. Something that would tuck behind my bino harness would be ideal, but not sure if that would make it too thick and interfere with my bow string. Still not 100% in love with the idea of a chest rig though. It took me awhile to get used to the bino harness and I still don't like it much. I don't like having weight on my chest. Makes me feel...confined I guess. Adding a pistol would just add to that.

Other ideas I've had are a shoulder holster, or possibly a drop leg holster but for that one I don't know if I could pull the bottom panel all the way down on my CGM Cobra.

I do know that I don't like having it in my pack. Already had to do a rapid rappel this season to grab my bag due to a coyote coming too close for comfort and snarling towards me. Would have been better to have it on me.

Kenai Chest Holster carries a S&W 10mm with red dot on TLR7a, works great this year. I used one for a Hi Power last couple years.

A UM92 flap holster works well for a backpack waist band, with multiple (including Molle) attachments. But I hunt in mud and snow and don’t want to drop a gun into either.

Edit: When I say drop, I mean lower down out of the tree. That’s the downside of a waist belt holster.
